Subject: RE: The Saggy Bottom Boys From: oombanjo Date: 16 Feb 08 - 09:25 AM Hi Villan and Fortunato, If I was at all coherant on the night , and you remember the conversation we had at Gainsborough, I said that we had been aproached by the local vicar, "I hope his was for the O.T.music we play". and one of the local radio stations. Who asked us to do something on the programme again O.T.M. this is the first of the year and we a still putting the set together. When we were at Sewerby we had Linda and Hazel "Hissyfit" and did both songs and tunes from O.B.W.A.Thou. and Cold Mountain. L&H are booked up for most of the season but I spoke to linda yeaterday and we are going to try to get together for Sewerby in September. However let hope we get this one right on the night.Cheers Oom Banjo |
Subject: RE: The Saggy Bottom Boys From: Linda Kelly Date: 16 Feb 08 - 10:52 AM yes it would be lovely to repeat the Sewerby experience especially since the SBB's have evolved! I must admit I have'nt been looking at oombanjo's bottom so I am unable to comment on its sagginess, but I did have a chat over the salad leaves in Tesco's so perhaps he is taking preventative measures! |

Now, gentlemen place both hands on the shoulders of the man in front of you and extend them fully. Bend forward 30 degrees. That's it. Now when I say "Up", lift your left leg back and away, with your knee locked. UP! Hold it hold it, now... DOWN! Now the other leg, UP! DOWN! Ok, OOM, you charge them, LEFT! UP DOWN RIGHT! UP DOWN RIGHT! UP DOWN.... |
Subject: RE: The Saggy Bottom Boys From: Azizi Date: 02 Mar 08 - 08:39 AM Are there any videos, YouTube or otherwise, featuring this group? Unfortunately, I'm too far away to check out the live concert :o) ** Btw, I like the name oombanjo even better than the name Saggy Bottom Boys... I'm curious is that group name a play on words or does that group really "sport the sag"? {"sportin the sag"=wear really baggy, too big jeans without a belt which causes the pants to sag {fall down} and show the tops of their boxer underwear} Here's a website with pictures of wearing sagging pants-those photos in that Cameron Diaz website really wouldn't be considered sagging pants where I come from {Pittsburgh, Pennslyvania, USA}... http://entertainment.webshots.com/album/81096043HyqQpO Btw2, for what is worth, I've read {somewhere} that sportin {wearin} the sag {sagging pants} originated among African American men who were incarcerated. This clothing style originated because people who were in jail or prison were often given pants that were too big for them-and they weren't allowed to wear belts on their pants. Therefore their pants hung down. As more and more men transitioned to the streets from jail, they brought this clothing style with them Wearing sagging, much too big pants became associated with hip hop culture {the gangsta rap part of it, more than other parts}. In addition, there's a pratical aspect to buying pants too big. It saves money since you can grow into the sizes...But the style wasn't/isn't really about praticality-since practically speaking, it's hard to walk or run with pants on that sag. This style has been around since the 1980s and maybe earlier. My sons weren't allowed to wear pants that were two and three sizes too big for them. But still sometimes would "forget" to wear a belt and would use {gym/sneaker/tennis shoes} shoe strings instead of a belt. I don't know if that was part of the style in jail. But it does help keep their too big, baggy pants up. Males sport the sag much more than females, since females are interested in showing off their shapes and you can't do that wearing too big, baggy pants. |
Subject: RE: The Saggy Bottom Boys From: Mrs.Duck Date: 02 Mar 08 - 08:43 AM Well maybe the Webfooted Ramblers will join you at Sewerby! |
Subject: RE: The Saggy Bottom Boys From: Backwoodsman Date: 02 Mar 08 - 11:22 PM "Males sport the sag much more than females, since females are interested in showing off their shapes and you can't do that wearing too big, baggy pants." Mmmm, you should come to the UK, Azizi. Lots of somewhat overweight young ladies wearing extremely tight jeans, with the waist so low you can see roll of fat hanging over (what's colloquially known as the Muffin-Top), and exposing the butt-crack and the top of the thong which is stuck up it (eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeugh!). The jeans may not be baggy, but they sure do sag - vomit-makingly so. :-) |
Subject: RE: The Saggy Bottom Boys From: GUEST,Edthefolkie Date: 03 Mar 08 - 07:16 AM Backwoodsman - LOL! I followed one of them up the open staircase at work the other day. Took me several black coffees to recover. At my age I shouldn't get shocks like that. |

Subject: RE: The Saggy Bottom Boys From: Tyke Date: 31 Mar 08 - 02:25 PM Serves you right for dragging your arses coming up with the name! LOL George |
Subject: RE: The Saggy Bottom Boys From: Les from Hull Date: 31 Mar 08 - 02:40 PM Why not challenge them to a sag-off? I reckon you could out saggy them any day! Or you'll have to revert to your alternative epithet 'The Beverley Hillbillies' (note spelling). |
Subject: RE: The Saggy Bottom Boys From: oombanjo Date: 31 Mar 08 - 03:02 PM All this controversy, and just the other day I suggested changing our name to! Kick The Dog. |
Subject: RE: The Saggy Bottom Boys From: Tyke Date: 31 Mar 08 - 03:39 PM I was reading an article about two Larger than life Lady's who entered a competition to find out who had the biggest backside. This was in a shantytown set up by the Navies building the railway in Hebden Bridge. The lady's had to sit in a bathtub filled with flower to determine who had the largest Backside. Perhaps a similar competition could be set up to decide who are the real Saggy Bottom Boy's! Buttered scone anyone! |

Subject: RE: The Saggy Bottom Boys From: Tyke Date: 31 Mar 08 - 10:17 PM Didn't like Brown Bread before personally! I would not feed it to the Ducks and I'm certainly never going to buy any kind bread in Hebden Bridge just in case they drop in for tea some time. That said I still think a challenge should be sent out to these Australian upstarts. The loser has to change their name to the Sour Dough Boys. |
Subject: RE: The Saggy Bottom Boys From: Tyke Date: 31 Mar 08 - 10:25 PM Really Oombanjo fancy suggesting "Kick the Dog" it's about time this traditional method of obtaining a note to tune the Banjo to was abolished. |

Subject: RE: The Saggy Bottom Boys From: oombanjo Date: 01 Apr 08 - 02:55 PM Much appreciated H. see y'all soon we hope. Tyke. If this competition goes on the size of the Derriere I'm afraid that I wont get passed go, but if you are talking of going south, I keep taking the backs of my shoes. As for the competition in Hebden Bridge, that sounds more like a scene from Last of the Summer Wine, but ye gods. The thought of the imprint of Norah Batty's stockings is enough to win any competition. |
Subject: RE: The Saggy Bottom Boys From: Tyke Date: 01 Apr 08 - 07:40 PM Well oombanjo I was wondering if the Bridlington do was on again this year as I was thinking of paying it a visit if it was on. Failing that or as well as why not get over to the Holmfirth Festival of Folk on the 8th 9th 10th of May I'm sure you could make your mark in Ray Paget's annual Wibberly Wobberly walking workshop see the thread for details. You need to book for Camping as it's limited however it is open to all who attend festival. George |

Subject: RE: The Saggy Bottom Boys From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 24 Apr 08 - 10:42 AM As it turned out there was a hen night of about 30 souls booked in for a meal and drinking. Very noisy but we won out and got them up dancing. for some reason (before the dancing)they latched onto Brownsferry Blues and gave that a rousing reception. We are hoping for a quieter, though not less enthusiastic, audience at The Tiger on May 17th. Oh, by the way, Hariwatts are playing at the Tapas Bar venue a few days earlier on May 14th. R |
