I was fortunate enough to hear them practising on wednesday night, should be a good one, and John's new banjo does indeed go up to eleven.

Backwoodsman - LOL!

I followed one of them up the open staircase at work the other day. Took me several black coffees to recover. At my age I shouldn't get shocks like that.

"Males sport the sag much more than females, since females are interested in showing off their shapes and you can't do that wearing too big, baggy pants."

Mmmm, you should come to the UK, Azizi. Lots of somewhat overweight young ladies wearing extremely tight jeans, with the waist so low you can see roll of fat hanging over (what's colloquially known as the Muffin-Top), and exposing the butt-crack and the top of the thong which is stuck up it (eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeugh!). The jeans may not be baggy, but they sure do sag - vomit-makingly so. :-)

Are there any videos, YouTube or otherwise, featuring this group?

Unfortunately, I'm too far away to check out the live concert :o)
**

Btw, I like the name oombanjo even better than the name Saggy Bottom Boys...

I'm curious is that group name a play on words or does that group really "sport the sag"? {"sportin the sag"=wear really baggy, too big jeans without a belt which causes the pants to sag {fall down} and show the tops of their boxer underwear}

Here's a website with pictures of wearing sagging pants-those photos in that Cameron Diaz website really wouldn't be considered sagging pants where I come from {Pittsburgh, Pennslyvania, USA}...

http://entertainment.webshots.com/album/81096043HyqQpO

Btw2, for what is worth, I've read {somewhere} that sportin {wearin} the sag {sagging pants} originated among African American men who were incarcerated. This clothing style originated because people who were in jail or prison were often given pants that were too big for them-and they weren't allowed to wear belts on their pants. Therefore their pants hung down. As more and more men transitioned to the streets from jail, they brought this clothing style with them
Wearing sagging, much too big pants became associated with hip hop culture {the gangsta rap part of it, more than other parts}.

In addition, there's a pratical aspect to buying pants too big. It saves money since you can grow into the sizes...But the style wasn't/isn't really about praticality-since practically speaking, it's hard to walk or run with pants on that sag. This style has been around since the 1980s and maybe earlier. My sons weren't allowed to wear pants that were two and three sizes too big for them. But still sometimes would "forget" to wear a belt and would use {gym/sneaker/tennis shoes} shoe strings instead of a belt. I don't know if that was part of the style in jail. But it does help keep their too big, baggy pants up.

Males sport the sag much more than females, since females are interested in showing off their shapes and you can't do that wearing too big, baggy pants.

All right SBB's stand shoulder to shoulder in line. Now left face. No, no, OOM, youR other left. That's right.

Now, gentlemen place both hands on the shoulders of the man in front of you and extend them fully. Bend forward 30 degrees. That's it.

Now when I say "Up", lift your left leg back and away, with your knee locked.
UP! Hold it hold it, now...
DOWN!

Now the other leg, UP! DOWN!
Ok, OOM, you charge them, LEFT! UP DOWN RIGHT! UP DOWN RIGHT! UP DOWN....

yes it would be lovely to repeat the Sewerby experience especially since the SBB's have evolved! I must admit I have'nt been looking at oombanjo's bottom so I am unable to comment on its sagginess, but I did have a chat over the salad leaves in Tesco's so perhaps he is taking preventative measures!

Hi Villan and Fortunato, If I was at all coherant on the night , and you remember the conversation we had at Gainsborough, I said that we had been aproached by the local vicar, "I hope his was for the O.T.music we play". and one of the local radio stations. Who asked us to do something on the programme again O.T.M. this is the first of the year and we a still putting the set together. When we were at Sewerby we had Linda and Hazel "Hissyfit" and did both songs and tunes from O.B.W.A.Thou. and Cold Mountain. L&H are booked up for most of the season but I spoke to linda yeaterday and we are going to try to get together for Sewerby in September. However let hope we get this one right on the night.Cheers Oom Banjo

You must be something to do with Sagger Makers Bottom Knockers. The saggy bottoms were the ones that didn't fire properly in the kiln. Nothing to do with Soggy bottoms at all!
