Songpull is a grass roots movement, for lack of a better word, whose aim is to provide a place for local songwriters to showcase their newest, most recent songs. Here's a link to the nearest one to me, in Kansas City.

I'm thinking about organizing a Songpull in my town. I have a site picked out for the initial events. What I want to know is for those of you who have organized a Songpull, what sort of video equipment did you use? Would you recommend that unit? What was the price range?

if you want to video "tape" an event
one good way is to invite a local college video production class
or local public access t.v. station to document the performers
http://www.kcpt.org/about/
http://flowtv.org/?p=892
http://blogs.kansascity.com/tvbarn/1998/09/public_access_t.html

there may have been some controversity in Kansas City when a
racial hate group (KKK) tried to exercise free speech by showing
their video on the channel...and I am not sure of the current
status, but any way, public access t.v. usually focusses on
P.E.G. programming (Public, Educational and Government) and
usually these channels are available thru the cable television system..

I was a student for several years at the local community college t.v.
production class and we videotaped several music events, concerts, and performances. Some of these sessions were broadcast.

I dont think you will get much UK response on this Jim - Though we DO have Singer/Songwriters aplenty , very few 'Folk' venues cater SOLELY
to this aspect of 'folk'

I dunno - we seem to get a few in Bristol, at least one or two monthly nights purely for songwriters to perform. Not been yet, so don't know if they video it or not.

Sometimes I go over to Kansas City for the Songwriter's Circle. I've been doing that off and on for eight or nine years, I guess. So over the course of time, yeah, I've gotten to know a few of the regulars. And we've more or less developed a mutual admiration society among ourselves. :-)

I'm wondering (as a complete aside!) if "pull" has that same meaning in the US? :)

maybe you need to be more specific about the meaning....
so we can know if it does or not....

Well, the, err, colloquial meaning of "pull" is pairing off (and sometimes further activities) with another person. People go out on the pull, etc. Hence Mr Happy's remark above! :)

Hi,

At the risk of stating the obvious: The songpull site also has a page on having a songpull.

Where is this new songpull going to be, B.T.W.?

                                                                   Mysha

Curious: You'd expect them to be guitarpulls.

The new Songpull will be somewhere in Lawrence, Kansas, USA. The exact location has yet to be determined.

I'm sure the originators of the Songpull were completely unawares of British slang, as am I.

Perhaps I should have prefaced this thread with TECH., as it really was about what sorts of video cameras would be best suited to record the event.

Let's get serious now, and put our heads together, OK?

Jim
