Subject: RE: Concertina: Woman's Hour BBC Radio 4 now From: The Borchester Echo Date: 29 Feb 08 - 12:48 PM the concertina gets a publicity boost Only those of the diatonic variety played by women in one country. Can we expect an entire series about all other kinds (including East German-manufactured bandoneons as played by Argentinian tango merchants)? |

Subject: RE: Concertina: Woman's Hour BBC Radio 4 now From: The Mole Catcher's Apprentice (inactive) Date: 01 Mar 08 - 01:06 PM "I've watched some-one trying to play a saxophone with a big fluffy tampon up it" which renders it a moot point? Charlotte ( I say, I say, my dog's got...) |

Subject: RE: Concertina: Woman's Hour BBC Radio 4 now From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 02 Mar 08 - 06:37 AM Hey Alan.... I'd better get on with it then!! PS, I will be recording Michael Hibbert (with Andrew Frank.....Rampin Cat, remember?) Live at the end of March. If it works out well, Who knows what treasures may appear. Will be in touch, as soon as I can get this b****y digital editor to talk to me! Regards Ralph |
Subject: RE: Concertina: Woman's Hour BBC Radio 4 now From: Surreysinger Date: 02 Mar 08 - 06:30 PM Hmmm ... slip of the digit there, I presume Ralphie ... that should be Michael _Hebbert_ shouldn't it ?? (:-) |
Subject: RE: Concertina: Woman's Hour BBC Radio 4 now From: Alan Day Date: 03 Mar 08 - 03:41 AM Sounds great Ralphie,no panic it will be at least 6-8 Months before I start panicking for recordings, but live recordings usually work.Your old recordings of "Eric" are always a good listen. Al |
Subject: RE: Concertina: Woman's Hour BBC Radio 4 now From: Alan Day Date: 03 Mar 08 - 10:41 AM Becky is on board Thanks Dave Al |
Subject: RE: Concertina: Woman's Hour BBC Radio 4 now From: The Borchester Echo Date: 03 Mar 08 - 11:22 AM Michael Hebbert is a non-Irish, non-female, non-anglo player. He's a bloke, a Jeffries duet player who occasionally plays keyboard/synth. He couldn't be more off-topic for a broadcast item on woman anglo players than a Leith docker on the glockenspiel. |
Subject: RE: Concertina: Woman's Hour BBC Radio 4 now From: GUEST,The Mole Catcher's unplugged Apprentice Date: 03 Mar 08 - 12:24 PM "PS, I will be recording Michael Hibbert (with Andrew Frank.....Rampin Cat, remember?) Live at the end of March." self promotion, I think..but way off topic in any case Charlotte (producing a programme on Leith dockers who play the glockenspiel) |
Subject: RE: Concertina: Woman's Hour BBC Radio 4 now From: Surreysinger Date: 03 Mar 08 - 01:33 PM "self promotion, I think..but way off topic in any case" If we're going to raise the matter of "off topic" I think I'd like to point out the very questionable bad taste jokes posted by one or two male concertina players earlier on in the thread - absolutely TOTALLY unrelated to the topic, and uncommented on in this context previously. (Off to get hat and coat now). |
Subject: RE: Concertina: Woman's Hour BBC Radio 4 now From: The Borchester Echo Date: 03 Mar 08 - 02:02 PM TOTALLY unrelated to the topic No it's not. Adjacent to the topic actually, since the item (which was ecological and environmental in content) followed the three anglo players in the running order. However, the Woman's Accordian thread is far funnier. Bring on the Leith glockenspiel-toting dockers. (Michael Hebbert is a geography professor who lives in Manchester and knows ALL ABOUT what relates to what). |
Subject: RE: Concertina: Woman's Hour BBC Radio 4 now From: Surreysinger Date: 04 Mar 08 - 09:00 AM TOTALLY unrelated to the topic I agree with Diane on that point ... it's not unrelated to the topic at all - if you look at Noreen's original post, at the time of posting it was the "concertina" which was the aspect being featured - not type, not player, not type of music etc etc "Bring on the Leith glockenspiel-toting dockers" Now that I would like to see! "(Michael Hebbert is a geography professor who lives in Manchester and knows ALL ABOUT what relates to what). " Hey - I trained as a geographer... wonderful tuition in spatial analyses as I recall, not to mention nearly getting a job studying what people did in sand dunes in South Wales (???) when I was younger ... but I don't think the gist of what was related to what (except spatially) ever really came up .... things have obviously moved on!!! And those two last points really WERE off topic ... whoops!! |
