Hi, For those of you in the U.K. interested in ritual dance.
The Southport Swords are hosting the 2008 Dance England Rapper Tournament in Liverpool on Sat 8th March.
This will involve 20 rapper teams dancing in 10 various pubs in and around Liverpool city center with their performances improving with every pint (?). Judges ( dance, not criminal), although that may be up for disscussion after the results are anounced, will be strategicly positioned in the pubs (near the bar).
A list of pubs can be found on our website DERT 08
Teams taking part are.......Black Swan I and II, Castle Keep, Dark Horse Rapper, Durham University Rapper, Gaorsach Rapper and Step, Hexham, Lamb and Flag, The Larks Hill Sword Squad, Mabel Gubbins, Newcastle Kingsmen, Northgate, Pengwyn Rapper Sword Dancers, Ryknild Rapper, Sallyport, Silver Flame Rapper, Smutt Rapper Stone Monkey, Thrales Rappper , Triskele Sword, Whip the Cat.
So maybe we will see some of you there.
Cheers
Les

Hello to you Les B -

I went to Bath a coupla years or so ago, to see the Dertie Dancin' and I had SUCH a great time,

so for anyone who likes Rapper (dancing and NOT the singing) I entreat you to go to this event for a GREAT day out, lots of fun, lots of silliness, lots of artistic value (!) and lots of beer - (although i personally dont drink !!!)

Sorry I cannot make it up to Liddypool, but when it comes back down to the South of England I will visit again for fun. I just LOVE rapper!

Jo-JO

Les - such a shame that it's next weekend. I have a concert to sing in and East Saxon Sword aren't going.

Have a great day, and watch out for old men who walk inexorably through sets (happened to ESS last time).

Saxons do not walk inexorably anywhere, according to Mabel Gubbins we move about on castors.

Some of those castors really, REALLY need an application of WD40 then.

(At the last DERT in October, East Saxon Sword had a 90yr old man walk through their set. They could tell it wasn't a team member as he wasn't wearing orange).

"They could tell it wasn't a team member as he wasn't wearing orange"
& didn't have brown shoes!
I thought castors were some kind of hat.
"castors away", from Benjamen Bowmaneer.

The dust has settled on the bar room floor, the last echos of tappit tap have died away & D.E.R.T. is over for another year.
It was a lot of hard work & not without it's stressful moments for us organisers, but it was all worth it.
Espesially for the Newcastle Kingsmen who won the overall & Premier class trophy, & Thraels Rapper who shot up the leader board collecting the 'character' trophy along the way. The girls from Gorsach Rapper were still grinning from ear to ear when they left on Sunday afternoon after winning the open class.
I hope that everybody who came enjoyed themselves & we will all meet up again at Newcastle next year.
Cheers
Les
