Good chance the song was written by Briege Murphy.   She was very helpful and approachable to me when I had some questions about some singers from her local session in Forkhill.   Might as well try the source... (btw, imho, her songs are absolutely beautiful.)

Agree, Briege's version of The Creel just enthralls me - her control on three-note runs, and the depths (complicated structure?) of her voice add an immense amount of interest to a simple a capella arrangement with bodhran. Wish I could do it half so well; I just love listening to her!
