I have been asked to sing a song called "So it Goes" at a wedding. Its chorus is "Ashes to ashes, dust into dust/ Buildings will crumble, bridges will rust/ Mountains will disappear, rivers will dry up/ So it goes with everything but love"

Corny, I know, but *I'm* not choosing the music. I just want to know who made it up so I can assure proper (dis)credit.

Actually, its one of the few admittedly corny songs I really like. Its not "Honey" mind you, but then , what is?

OLGA (on-Line Guitar Archive) has it as by Overstreet & Schlitz. The recording I heard is by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on Will the Circle be Unbroken 2 with John Denver on lead vocal.

I believe this song belongs in my "Guilty Pleasures" repertoire (songs that I secretly love but would never admit to knowing)

Thanks, Michael -- I believe Overstreet & Schlitz are the winners -- someone else told me they thought John Denver had recorded the song.

It's quite a popular title for a song with Steve Tilston, Nick Lowe and Taylor Swift also using it.

Joe, answered by Michael M on 17 May 99. Discogs says a bit more precise that the authors were Don Schlitz and Paul Overstreet.

And Steve Tilston's And So It Goes on his same-named album of 1995 is a song written bei himself, not the Schlitz/Overstreet song.

The Nick Lowe and Taylor Swift are also completely different songs - just using the same title.
