Subject: RE: Tech: Lobster Guitar From: Big Mick Date: 25 Mar 08 - 07:58 PM That's so important. I remember one time when Jed, Rick and I were in Grit Laskin's shop. I was looking at some of the beautiful works in progress, and commented to Grit that it really amazed me that his guitars looks were only exceeded in beauty by their sound. Grit told me that was because Jean Larrivee taught him that first and foremost he had to build a great guitar before he learned to do the beautiful inlays. That conversation leapt to mind when I looked at the lobster guitar. All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lobster Guitar From: Bill D Date: 25 Mar 08 - 09:20 PM Years ago, I went to the Winfield festival, and in the crafts area there was a dulcimer maker. He had absolutely beautiful instruments! Interesting woods, scroll work...etc... I was hooked! until I tried to play one. He hadn't even spaced the frets perfectly! They were 'almost' unplayable. Wall dulcimers.... |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lobster Guitar From: Charley Noble Date: 26 Mar 08 - 08:15 AM Good lord! However, it's not a "keeper." To my eyes the claws look rather puny. I'd throw it back and let 'em grow back to full size. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lobster Guitar From: Grab Date: 26 Mar 08 - 08:49 AM Very pretty, but I'd be worried about the carving creating weak points in the back and sides. At least with inlay there's the inlay filling the gap (and typically some quantity of epoxy or other glue). |
Subject: RE: Tech: Lobster Guitar From: SINSULL Date: 26 Mar 08 - 10:13 AM I see a horseshoe crab and jelly fish tentacles but only parts of a lobster. |
