I am informed that the Orkney Festival is upcoming and has a fine list of performers.

I'm especially interested to see 'Stramash' listed. Last I heard, they broke up years ago had never cut an actual record. I'm only slightly familiar with Anne Neilson - on "Folk Songs of North East Scotland" but am struck by truly extraordinary ballad singing.

McNaughtan's brilliance pops up here & there (eg the Hamish Tribute) but I regret I have little of his and never caught him live either.

Can you tell me who is in the group these days and if they do have any CDs out?

Thanks.

Abby

This is truly an un missable opertunity to catch a set of real singers. Not sure of the lineup that will appear but the chances are that may well include as well as Adam and Anne, Kevin Mitchell, John Eaglesham, Finlay Allison and Bob Blair. John has recorded with The Clutha, Kevin, Bob and Adam all have solo albums and ther was talk of a CD from Anne. Expect gteat songs, old and new, from Scotland and Ireland.

Stramask have made a tape of songs by Matt McGinn, called (like the book) 'McGinn of the Calton' (1990). Someone told me they're called the 'elastic band' because of the flexibility of their line-up and appearances :-). Anne Neilson appears on the 'Scots Women' double CD.

I'm hoping to get to Orkney FF this year, to hear Stramash as well as Geordie McIntyre & Alison McMorland, among others.
