Dear All

It is with great sadness that I pass on the news that Phil Lacey passed away early this morning. Phil had been ill for some time.

I have no more information at the present. But once funeral details are known I will pass them on. Please PM me.

Phil was a great singer. A stalwart of both the Wimborne Folk Session and Wimborne Folk Festival. You would also find him popping up at Falmouth and Bournemouth voice tours and at Chippenham festival. And a lot of places in between. Many that knew him will, I am sure remember his rich voice joining in with the chorus . Or his guitar blending with Wendy's accordion playing.

Phil loved singing the songs of Stan Rodgers so just the chorus of one of the ones I loved to hear him sing, and join in with.

"For just one time I would take the north-west passage,
To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea,
Tracing one warm line through a land so wild and savage,
And make a north west passage to the sea"

Geoff

I only knew Phil for about three years, mainly at the Wimborne sessions, yet his music and quick wit had become part of why I go to folk clubs. Most of that time we have vied with each other to do the next Tom Paxton song.
"Are you going away with no word of farewell"

Peter

Like Peter(aka Warwick Slade)I first met Phil when I started going to Wimborne each Thursday. I quickly realised I was not (as I'd rather arrogantly assumed)the only person in the area who was a Stan Rogers fan and knew I could never sing his songs as well as Phil could. I'll miss his rich voice, subtle guitar playing and wonderfully sharp sense of humour. He was a good man and we'll all miss him.

We knew Phil was in hospital, but Derek and I have both been shocked by this sad news. Deepest sympathy to Wendy and the rest of the family.

Phil will be sadly missed by all his folk friends all over the country.

Love to Wendy and the boys at this very sad time.

This is very sad news indeed.
I have enjoyed his wonderfully unique voice for many years and fully endorse the tributes paid above. Phil will be greatly missed.
My condolences to Wendy and family.

Malcolm
