Jeez, I thougth I was the last person in the known universe to finally put up video of myself, but apparently not ~ there's a whole bunch of other newbies popping up just within the past week.

Here's video #2, a favorite of mine and my usual closing number, an arrangement of "Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans" that I had worked up a fe wyears ago during the winter of '05-'06 while living in Katrina-exile in New Jersey (i.e., what we came to call "evacu-cation").

Paul shot about 40 minutes worth of video at this show in December, and he is deciding which songs and how many to post. I have been swapping songs and tunes with banjo and concertina friends over there for the last few years . I am afraid I have a ton of clips .. Its so much fun having someone ask you to work up a tune and then see what they do with it as well. I really think of my Yt experience as an exrtention of the years of conversation and friends I have made here.

Note, that I've had no hand in the creation of any of these videos, except to be the musical subject being captured. It's a challenge to create a video, when you possess no video camera. So, the quality of these offerings vary greatly.

Oddly, one of the most watched videos from among this group is the earliest video that was posted at YT of me offering my version of "51 Highway Blues" at a local pub and the quality is quite rough.

A video that turned out well, despite the fact that I had far too little time to prepare for my part in the show, was captured at The Moore Theater in Seattle and posted to YT by the STG (Seattle Theater Group). It features me on stage offering a number with my musical saw and joined by a whole host of wonderful performers.

Yep, I got stuff on the Tube. Folks began posting miscellaneous videos featuring my playing and I collected them all into a favorites file. The quality varies greatly among these. I have only one actual music video of my song, "These Old Shoes". Some of the rest of the videos in the file were captured from live shows. Some were impromptu camera captures by passersby on the street. In some cases the videos were then edited by others into their own visions.

At least one of them is a television commercial. The result of the campaign that used that commercial later brought several million dollars to those who launched it but I received nothing for my part, except the exposure of having my music included in the effort. I also get a cameo in the first few seconds of the commercial.

However, because of the camera crew's efforts at posting one of my songs, "Wall Street Bail Out Blues", on YouTube, I did get my photo in The Wall Street Journal and mentioned in an article about songwriters, that made the cover on February 6th 2009. The article by writer Rob Tomsho, "No Dough In The Do Re Mi", also mentioned some other songwriting heroes, Woody Guthrie, Neil Young and Tom Paxton. Priceless! All due to a video of my song getting posted to You Tube.

I played at a charity do recently in North Yorkshire and co-opted a couple of friends (and my wife - though she's a friend too) to play along.

Favourite song that I learned from Pete Ryder who wrote it called Nat Shapiro's Time. I play it much faster than he plays it and left out the last verse because we were under time pressures on the night.

John who plays bodhran is a very fine interpreter of Jake Thackray's songs and Joss plays with Kathryn Tickell so I was pretty lucky for the night though the practice was about 2 minutes worth - so the beginning is a bit ropey
