my son lives in wilksboro north carolina and this will be my fourth year at the merle fest no matter who else is playing i always try to attend any session with doc watson i think he is almost 84 and his guitar playing is wonderful but it is his voice that still carries you away.

How fortunate you are to have attended Merlefest four times! If it were a bit closer I would be there every year!Doc Watson (indeed the whole line-up )is fabulous.

Doc Watson turned 85 on March 3 of this year.

Doc Watson isn't just the top player in American music, he is American music.

hi old timer checked the long range forecast for merle fest and it looks like it will be warm you only need jeans or shorts during the day but at night it can get pretty cold so a jacket or sweater is necessary also if you wear sandals make sure you have closed shoes and socks for nighttime or if it rains pack some sort of rain gear but we have never experienced anything other then a few sprinkles and bring sunscreen there is a big food tent with a lot of choices and prices are very reasonable i try to go to any venue where doc watson is playing and for the shows held indoors, rather then on the open stages, you should get there early so you can get a seat. if you play an instrument bring it for there are a lot of opportunities to join in at sessions. there is a main stage but also several other areas where groups perform and the hardest thing is deciding who you want to hear it's a great mix with well known acts and new people just starting out. you'll have a great time

Howdy- we're driving from Richmond and won't get in before midnight Friday . Any ideas on the best place to park ( know about the blue lot but not the other places )?? Five hours drive time is nothing for a chance to see Doc and Levon the same day .
