Subject: How's Hughie Jones? From: EBarnacle Date: 17 Apr 08 - 10:16 PM One of the things which came up at dinner and during the South Street chantey sing is that Hughie is apparently quite ill. Any current data? |
Subject: RE: How's Hughie Jones? From: BB Date: 18 Apr 08 - 02:22 PM I've recently been in touch with his wife Chris, and he's doing great! He's had a lung removed, but is recovering well and looking forward to getting back to gigging again. In fact, to quote Chris, "He's getting better every day, and seems to manage well with just one lung." Barbara |

Subject: RE: How's Hughie Jones? From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 19 Apr 08 - 02:27 PM My best wishes to him, and I know Packie would want me to include his too. Some of our best gigging memories are of meeting The Spinners backstage at various events, and of course playing their club. Thinking of ya, Hughie - Get well soon! Packie & Bonnie xxx (ok, the kisses are from Bonnie) |

Subject: RE: How's Hughie Jones? From: Silas Date: 20 Apr 08 - 12:08 PM I really think the spinners should be given the lifetime achievement award at the Radio 2 folk awards - its easy to take the piss, but they brought a lot of people into the folk revival |

Subject: RE: How's Hughie Jones? From: GUEST,JohnB Date: 20 Apr 08 - 06:53 PM We think it was 40 years ago this year i.e. 1968 on April 26th that my wife and I went on our first date. It was a Spinners Concert at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester. I'm not going to make any smart comments, this could be read. Good Luck Hughie, JohnB |

Subject: RE: How's Hughie Jones? From: Susanne (skw) Date: 21 Apr 08 - 08:56 PM Never managed to see them live, nor Hughie on his own, but the Spinners were my intro to the folk scene. I'll keep my fingers crossed for him. |
Subject: RE: How's Hughie Jones? From: Charley Noble Date: 21 Apr 08 - 09:16 PM Just last weekend when I was attending the South Street chantey sing in New York City, a young British reporter showed up to cover this "cultural event" and mentioned in passing that his parents were great fans of the Spinners. Lords knows what he'll come with for copy but he appeared to be enjoying what he was hearing. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
