Ronnie Lane/Kate Lambert/Eric Clapton (Slim Chance Music). Easily found via Google if you enter a key phrase instead of worrying about what the title might be.

Thanks, BanjoRay and Malcolm.I have been looking for this for years, but with no knowledge of who sang/wrote it I didn't have a clue about how to find it - until I discovered Mudcat, that is! I can't believe how good this site is...I think I'm becoming addicted.And I can't believe I didn't recognise Eric Clapton's voice when I first heard the song. Duh!

This song first appeared on the album "Rough Mix" by Pete Townsend (of the Who) and Ronnie Lane (of the Small Faces and later the Faces), released September 1977. The singer, by the way, is Ronnie Lane, not Eric Clapton (at least, this version). Clapton in all likelihood plays guitar on the song as he is credited on the album as a performer and, as noted, as a co-writer of the song.

I fell in love with the song from the first time I heard it, back in the fall of '77.

During the recording of the album in 1976/77, Ronnie Lane was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, but he lived another 20 years before succumbing to the disease.

This song was written for the care taker of the children of Ronnie Lane named Annie. She was also a spiritual person for the many ppl that hung around the farm house. She was neighbour of Ronni and his first wife Kate. Information taken from documentary on .Ronnie Lane and Slim Chance.
