An unuasual request for the forum. I am seeking a Tape and/or C.D. of the Catholic Mass in Irish. I have tried several sources and can get the words easy enough but I need the tunes for the choir. We are attempting to celebrate the Mass in Irish St. Patrick's week
(2009). Any help would be appreciated.

Sean O'Riada, composer and arranger, one of the seminal characters in the development of traditional Irish music in the mid-20th century, wrote two (IIRC) settings of the Mass in Irish. Very popular. I'll see what's available as recordings and sheet music, later today.

Regards

This link will lead you to some settings. I can't vouch for quality - I haven't heard them.

O'Riada's settings are called "Aifreann Ui Riada" and "Aifreann 2" (?). There is/was a Gael Linn recording of both but their site reports it as out of stock. You may be able to locate a copy.

I have seen printed versons of the first setting - I may even have one around here somewhere. We can dig up details if necessary.

Good luck

Regards

Aifreann Ui Riada contains some beautiful tunes. Another well known Mass in Irish is composed by (I think) Seoirse Bodley. These would be the two best known ones, but there are probably lots of others.

Let's try that again:

This site appears to have stock of the CD with both O'Riada masses.

Have a look at this link, from the HeaNet Ir-Trad list:

Ag Chriost an Siol is a particularly beautiful hymn, either sung or as an instrumental.

Let us know what you choose -

O'Riada's site looks promising.

Martin,

I forgot to add that the Priest who will be celebrating the Mass is also called O'Riada ?????.
