Subject: RE: Hessle Town Hall From: GUEST,Warpy Date: 16 May 08 - 09:11 AM HI Jez Well people danced at both gigs and the atmosphere has been great .Quite a lot of teenagers dancing at the front.... Salsa Celtica. It was great to see them on top form at a smaller venue. I saw them at Shrewsbury last year and although they were good seeing them in Hessle in a smaller venue WOW !. Spread the word you East Riding folk fans. |
Subject: RE: Hessle Town Hall From: JeZeBeL Date: 16 May 08 - 08:54 AM I'm so glad we've got Hessle Town Hall. It's such a cool place for gigs.....not too big and not too small......we really need to do something to get this really up and running and getting loads of good gigs here.... I went to see Salsa Celtica and I couldn't have been more in heaven if I'd tried!! What an awesome night and it was all arranged so beautifully, well, it seemed to go without a hitch and I don't think the acoustics are bad either. I'm sorry I can't really offer any advice on how to make the venue more known....all I can say is that it will have my partner and my full support.... We need to encourage the folk scene in Hull as it's a little on the quiet side |
Subject: RE: Hessle Town Hall From: GUEST,SD Date: 16 May 08 - 06:44 AM In reply to comment above, people can get tickets (£12.50 - under 15's £7) from Oxfam in Hessle Square, who have offered to be a local over the counter ticket outlet for this one. In return, they are making an additional £1 per ticket bkg fee to go to their fundraising, which seems fair enough. Otherwise, if Hessle isn't handy or you want to avoid bkg fees, phone 01274-588614 or 07809-157845. |

Subject: RE: Hessle Town Hall From: GUEST,SD Date: 15 May 08 - 04:48 PM By the way, they're actually spelt SOLAS. Here's a link to them on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD_3CnaeCoM - or search "Solas Coconut" in YouTube. The Americans are lucky - Solas hardly ever play in England, so we rarely have chance to see them. At last some UK gigs. |

Subject: Hessle Town Hall From: warpy Date: 15 May 08 - 06:24 AM Just some advise/ ideas from the local folk fans. I suggested Hessle Town Hall as a venue to Simon who puts on concerts at Saltaire. So far Dervish have played and Salsa Celtica .The next band will be top Irish /American band SOLUS on 30th May. Its a new venue for folk events or concerts in general and I really want it to be a sucess as in recent years this area has lost the Playhouse which often had concerts and Beverley Memorial Hall is soon to be demolished. Its great not to have to travel out of town to listen to something top quality.Any suggestions from the Hull tribe as to how publicise the events would be really welcome. See you at Welly or Black Boy sessions. |
