Subject: RE: Little Feat & Harris and Raitt From: bankley Date: 20 May 08 - 05:25 PM here's to Lowell George.....in 'mercenary territory', a side-shot south of the border |
Subject: RE: Little Feat & Harris and Raitt From: irishenglish Date: 20 May 08 - 05:28 PM And here's to Mr. Billy Payne on the piano! |
Subject: RE: Little Feat & Harris and Raitt From: GUEST Date: 20 May 08 - 05:31 PM Lowell George studied at the Ravi Shankar school of music in Los Angeles in the Seventies. He was enamored of Indian classical music. |
Subject: RE: Little Feat & Harris and Raitt From: gnu Date: 21 May 08 - 06:31 AM Yup... so many "names"... couldn't put them all in the thread title. |
Subject: RE: Little Feat & Harris and Raitt From: bankley Date: 21 May 08 - 09:15 AM I remember Lowell when he was with Captain Beefheart.... now that was some interesting stuff. I was glad when some of his songs were covered by Name artists after his death. eg 'Dixie Chicken' by Garth Brooks. I prefered the original, but Mr.Brooks helped to put a lot of $ toward Lowell's estate. 'There's a fat man in the bathtub He's got the blues, listen to him mo-o-oan" |
Subject: RE: Little Feat & Harris and Raitt From: Barbara Shaw Date: 21 May 08 - 10:40 AM Wow. I've never seen Little Feat perform, although I was a HUGE fan of theirs in the late 70's. Thanks for this link. What they did was as good as it gets... |

Subject: RE: Little Feat & Harris and Raitt From: pdq Date: 21 May 08 - 11:16 AM Paul Barrere & Fred Tackett did a live acoustic record. It is Relix 2115, released in 2001. Not hard to find on eBay, usually low priced. |
Subject: RE: Little Feat & Harris and Raitt From: GUEST,Phil Beer Date: 21 May 08 - 11:21 AM Myself and Gareth Turner had a jolly in the 'states a while back and went to see them in Phoenix. They were smoking good. Looking forward to Trowbridge. They are not a museum piece in any way shape or form. They play a balanced set of the old material and current songs as well as some great covers. They are joined by guests at almost every gig they play and are held in very high regard by many musicians. This is a rare treat. Show me a sign And I'll be willin' |
Subject: RE: Little Feat & Harris and Raitt From: Amos Date: 21 May 08 - 11:22 AM Dang that was something good. I wish the ladies' vocal track had been mixed louder, though. They sure look like they sound sweet, eh? A |
Subject: RE: Little Feat & Harris and Raitt From: irishenglish Date: 21 May 08 - 11:25 AM The Barrere/Tackett combo also has a DVD, which I have, not bad at all. What does anyone think of the 80's early 90's lineup with Craig Fuller? |
Subject: RE: Little Feat & Harris and Raitt From: Lonesome EJ Date: 21 May 08 - 12:07 PM I liked the band with Fuller and Tackett, although nobody could match the white soul of Lowell's voice. For a California boy, he sure had that N'orleans sound didn't he? Probably my favorite rock n roll singer of all time. Two degrees in Be-Bop A PHD in Swing He's the Master of Rhythm He's the Rock n Roll King Gone but never forgotten. |
Subject: RE: Little Feat & Harris and Raitt From: pdq Date: 21 May 08 - 12:36 PM Lowell George was a pretty fair slide guitar player, as well as singer and song writer. On Milke Auldridge's "Blues and Bluegrass" (1974?) he joins Mike (dobro) and David Bromberg (slide acoustic guitar) by playing slide electric. There is only one number and it's called "Everybody Slides", but it was a revalation at the time. |
Subject: RE: Little Feat & Harris and Raitt From: fat B****rd Date: 21 May 08 - 12:55 PM Great Youtube film of them on The Old Grey Whistle Test. Rock'n'roll Doctor, at 9.30 in the morning ! (allegedly) |
Subject: RE: Little Feat & Harris and Raitt From: irishenglish Date: 21 May 08 - 01:00 PM Its funny, just before this thread started I was playing Waiting For Columbus and berating myself for not playing Little Feat more, they were so awesome. On that record I love the transition from Dixie Chicken to Tripe Face Boogie. |
