Good news about the wood supply! Those nice people who supplied the wood in September are bringing us 3 loads of logs this year, so we should have a good blaze going throughout.

Refresh - just over two weks to go. I'm trying to organise transport as we don't have car at the moment and I seem to have nearly as much stuff as DK these days. What, with the huge tent camp bed etc. That's what old age does to you. At my first knockholt ten years ago I had a tiny tent - no sleeping bag or any other luxuries.

Right! Stations ...
Knockholt or Dunton Green are the nearest stations as the crow flies - about 5 or 6 miles by road about 10! But the easiest to get to our field is Orpington Station Then an R5 bus which stops near the Tally Ho The Journey is about 25 minutes. I put the field postcode into TFL journey planner to see how to get from the campsite to Knockholt station and it planned a journey By bus to Orpington then a train back to knockholt station!

I need to collect my daughter and boyf from a station at about 11 Sun AM and then drive to Wiltshire for an unavoidable family do. Orpington looks like more of a nuisance than Knockholt station as far as I can see.

Richard, Orpington has a better service than Knockholt, especially on a Sunday.

You only use Knockholt Station if you're a really good walker, or arrange a taxi from there. The station used to be called Halstead which is about a mile away, but was changed to Knockholt due to parcels being sent there instead of Halstead Essex. Woodsie is quite right, get off at Orpington and onto a R5 bus, bound for Knockholt Pound. It stops a few hundred yards from the Tally Ho, but you might have to ask the driver to stop there. Buses run around every hour but check timetable with TFL as I may be wrong. Pete the Hat uses the bus to go back to Orpington for supplies. He does the whole journey within 2 hours usually.

Hi Sue
we have decided that myself, Linda and Sue will do large pots of stuff enough to feed loads. I am doing indian beef curry with rice and chappatis. Linda is doing a large paella, and sue is doing green chicken Tai curry.
Feel free to add to that if you want to.

After last years fiasco there will be beer and nibbles available in the Marquee on Saturday, but the punch and anything else will be in a seperate marquee by invitation only!

Afternoon all, barring any emergencies I might actually make it to Knockholt this year, for the first time...if you'll 'ave me? Errm, the only thing I'm puzzled about is the Thursday night event. I understand that it's a kind of communal cook-up, but I don't know what to bring. Sorry for this lack of imagination but is there a "Knockholt 101" or can someone take me in hand and/or offer some sagely advice?

Royston it's in Stoneings Lane and that lane is opposite the Tally Ho pub, for finding purposes.

I'm about to ring Sue Forde (thanks for the numebr Linda) and I maybe can get back to you on the contributions....

Just got back - Pat's van broke down at Orpington, so we waited for the AA. I enjoyed Wednesday and Thursday nights and Friday & Saturday afternoons. Too knackered for the night sessions Fri & Sat. The beer was great at the Tally Ho - the food was terrible and overpriced. Pity about the rain and wind on the last night - looking forward to September - There seems to be a bit of confusion about the date - I will put it on the website when a committee member confirms the date.

Well that's another memorable Knockholt!

What a great week. Shame about the marquee doing a ariel nosedive across the field that must have been one helluva gust of wind considering it still had 2 large gas lamps still attached to the roof struts. Fortunately not too much damage and repairable we hope. Thank god it didn't land on someone or their tent.

Fantastic music Saturday night, great harmonies. Thanks Richard B for sorting out my Mandolin, and my present it was much appreciated.

Roll on September. What you gonna call it Woodsie? Autumn Almanac, you did forsee the breeze ;-) Sorry about having to wait for the AA but the old bus got us home eventually.

Knackered my arse Woodsie, you mean pissed!

It's such a shame the lunchtime playing and singing does not happen anymore, but weather not suitable this time.

Royston has some killer photos and I expect a link to go up here in due course.

I liked the wet song session - was it Friday? The guitars largely stayed in cases (even mine) and we got some cracking unaccompanied singing from all quarters. But my favourite (until I had to go early to bed to be early to rise as stated above) was the Saturday. One of Annie's songs was a real gem, a very traditional sounding one.

I saw some people more pissed than ever before!

I am now back from my circular tour to Burbage Wilts via Orpington station (twice) and colelcted my wardo from the field a couple of hours ago.

For future reference is it possible to get a couple of lorry strops over the marquee onto really big stakes? I've seen commercial operations anchor marquees like that.

Oh, yes, if anyone finds a BLUE square canvas chair with no arms (designed to have no arms) it's mine and although I could find a similar green one I could not find my blue one and it's much better for playing guitar in than my sort of round-ish ones and I'd like it back.

Great weekend (my first), I really enojoyed it. Big thanks to those who cooked up the food and to Debs for that truly lethal punch! I have learned that it is a good idea to have a caravan (Richard's)and a car (mine) to each side of the tent so that the free-range marquee can be stopped before coming right over the top of you. The marquee did flatten the front of my tent (no permanent damage) and were it not for the caravan and car, things could have been quite unfortunate. All's well that ends well...

I am not a professional photographer by a long shot but the photos from the weekend are HERE feel free to have a look and download what you want, cheers!

We had a great time, except for the hangovers:-) and really looking forward to September. Knockholt really is something special, and the organisers deserve a hearty thanks from us all.

Oh gosh Royston I'm so sorry. As I said it could have been much worse. Glad you liked the punch It's amazing how pissed you can get on just lots of fruit juice which is all I could taste ;-) Must be the natural fermentation of the fruit. Please note I hold no reponsibility for peoples actions whilst under the influence of my punch.

We have decided to relocate the marquee to the fence area where we were camped, to give it some additional shelter from the wind and hopefully that will help. We are also going to buy some thick hessian ropes as guys instead of the nylon stuff which in actual fact tensile strength wise the rating was supposed to be sufficient but there you go you can't fight nature.

Richard would like to speak to in a proffesional capacity. I will PM you.

Debs

A semi-pro marquee fellow I know puts HUGE metal stakes into the ground (rather like the main ones that Knockers used to use on the superseded military tent), very close to the principal uprights, then runs a ratchet lorry strop over the top at each end, close to the support poles so that the long-ways poles are not in significant bending. Pretty well nothing will lift that off.

Well made it home safely despite the wind. The caravan is now in an entirely fiffeent place owing to my skill at reversing (Ha Ha). Shame the weather on Sunday couldn't have come a bit earlier. Still a great weekend. See you at Aylesford.

Richard, Colin contacted me yesterday and he has a chair that is not his, the description fits yours, blue with no arms. He was going to drop it round to me but I see that Linda is going to Aylesford at the weekend so if you are also going I'm sure it could be arranged for you to be reunited with it there. ps Thanks again for keeping my wine chilled on Saturday.

Great photos Royston! Also looked at your sweeps pics and saved the ones you took of us on the Pigs Ear Stage. Didn't notice you there.Secret of a good photographer I guess. As regards the marquee, good idea to move it to the shelter of the fence. After our awningcollapsed at Broadstairs we bought huge pegs and holding straps that claim to keep a plane on the ground. You've seen them at Knockholt.

Shame about the choice of music on the overdub - there was more folk than that played and sung there honest!

Yeah the music is naff - it's stuff that came with the software - I was just fooling about abd used it to cover up lots of wind rumbling on the mike - I have all the original footage which I will put on my compilation DVD when I get time! - Just a bit of fun really ...

Hi folks what a great Knockholt? it was some what over shadowed for me due to my mothers serious illness at the time. but I still enjoyed it,and dont remember much of it. but I do remember some excellent singers and players. I was told I was outragious on the Saturday night by a female friend I cant imagine what I done or was doing? still I have heard no more about it so it couldnt have been that bad?
Shifting those bogs by the method used was clever? I wonder if the Egyptians did it like that. Bloody Par-larva
Richard Bridge I recall seeing a blue chair by the bogs located at the Dead Oak copse centre field. I dont know about armless I was legess at the time alloy frame dark Blue? If we locate the Marquee near the headge we can secure it to one of the Oaks for future safety?
Oh by the way I lost Two Sea Bass I intended to cook on the Fire. Lord knows where they are now, Where I left them and what they must smell like by now,

I have a picture in my mind of me attaching the Sea Bass to the underside of someones Caravan? so the wind would dry them out prior to cooking.

My chair was returned via Essex Girl, thanks Pete.

I am sure the Bass are not under my caravan. If they were under a caravan I wonder if Caspar found them??

Yes it was good, but not as glorious as last September, after which people just did not seem to want to go home and were still onsite Sunday afternoon.
