I thought there had been a thread about this, but I can't find it. It's a splendid laid back weekend, very small gathering in pub and garden. So here it is: -

Seconded - I went last year and had a great time, greatly looking forward to this year's folk ale. (And this year I'm going to be helping out on the sound-desk, which means I'll have to moderate my cider intake rather more than I did last year!). Look forward to seeing everyone there.

Looking forward to it, and it's such great value. As Richard said, really laid back, camping facilities, lovely setting and after the concerts and my sing around/session, a really good late session in the marquee. All in all terrific value.

Now if I'd been alert I could have done a "Volvowatch" series of posts again. I think I'll be towing with the turbo this weekend, but she's spent most of the week in the garage with a manifold blow followed by a problem with the turbo oil feed return pipe seal problem. At one stage it looked as if the only towcar available to me for the weekend was going to be the V6 I bought for the putpose last year and then could not get taxed in time.

Oh, woe is me! I've been laid low by viral gastroenteritis, and can barely stand, let alone sing.

I shall therefore not be there this weekend. I'm as pissed off as hell as it's one the highlights of the year for me, but I wish you all good weather and a great time.

Well, I think that about everything that could go wrong did, for me.

The turbo was the wrong choice of car for towing. Turbo automatic ensured that I lost the Brian Rodgers Bog-driving competition on the way INTO the site.

I mullered my throat on the Friday night making my set on Saturday precarious - I had to tune things down a semitone.

I spent Saturday morning re-plumbing my caravan trying to find out why I had hot water but no cold water to speak of, and in the end it turned out to be flat leisure battery and internal pressure from heating water was why the hot tap was gushing well.

Leisure battery knackered.

Badly screwed up the first song in my set.

So knackered by Sat nite as a result that I could only manage to see the first set of the Young Coppers (great, but I would really have liked to see the second set, which I gather was fan-bloody-tastic - but I was feeling really shite).

Tweaked my back on Sunday morning making packing up rather fraught.

Visitor to van turned off my cold tap so hard the handle was broken.

Discovered that my work on plumbing had left a leak under sink.

Had to get towed off site.

Got home and found one of the bottles of beer in the space under the fridge had leaked.

And the twin-cam which had been fine when I left had decided not to be starting so making shuffling the cars to get the van back into lace very tricky.

Oh well, an hour's unpacking and sorting now before starting work.


Other than that, a lovely weekend, many thanks to Pigs Ear. Worryingly underattended, it seemed to me, so let's hope it will still be with us next year.

Bog driving (hardly tuition Richard, you flatter me) was taking place in Huntingdon this year with much more satisfactory outcome. - flatter bogs on the banks of the Ouse. Didn't get stuck, just very wet.

This is starting to sound like a report on the British Portaloo Grand Prix, so I'll stop. Glad you all had fun.

well that was a very pleasant and laidback weekend- lots to listen to and well-organised- not sure, richard, if things weren't just a bit more spread out, though the tent wasn't that full in the day there were many outside listening, and it was arranged better this year so all of the tent was seating instead of half- certainly for the main acts it filled up- weather forecast didn't help i guess- as it happened , just about right, not to sunburny but no need for pullys...
Big thanks to the Pigs Ear bunch, 'cos arranging something like this with a smile on the face at all times isn't easy, and they make it look so. The sound, too, was excellent, performers of all hues well catered for. Here's to the next one!

The good news is that the Volvo I didn't use is again going OK.

The bad news is that the one I did use seems to be dropping water and I've just had the exhaust manifold re-seated at vast expense and if the drip turns out to be the Head Gasket that's huger expense and the bloody manifold has to come off again...

The campsite was much emptier than last year.

Can we ahve the seats a bit further off the ground next year -it felt like back to kindergarten!

Dodgy Volvos aside, this was a good week-end in a lovely spot. Too many great performances to praise....don't want to miss anyone out...
