Subject: BS: John F Weldon finds religion From: john f weldon Date: 02 Jun 08 - 09:44 AM During a recent 2-month bout with pneumonia, I began to explore my spiritual side, and was finally moved to write this Gospel song, along with a little film... The Old Rugged Hammer |

However I should warn you NOT to attempt these stunts at home. They were done by a trained certified lunatic. Especially do not drink and hammer. cheers JFW |
Subject: RE: BS: John F Weldon finds religion From: katlaughing Date: 02 Jun 08 - 04:04 PM Hmmph! I didn't see Buddha getting any credit with the others!**bg** Too funny. I also enjoyed Robot Dinosaur Bad. Little Hawk should see that one! |
Subject: RE: BS: John F Weldon finds religion From: Bee Date: 02 Jun 08 - 04:25 PM Oh my goodness, that was fabulous! I think I'm converted now, but Thor - or some guy named John F. Weldon - owes me a keyboard, as I've snorted coffee all over mine. Seriously, that was a great video. I am impressed. |
Subject: RE: BS: John F Weldon finds religion From: Beer Date: 02 Jun 08 - 04:38 PM I agree Bee, it is very impressive. Have you seen his Log Driver's Waltz? Type it in on You Tube. |
Subject: RE: BS: John F Weldon finds religion From: Little Hawk Date: 02 Jun 08 - 07:22 PM Way to go, John! I just posted the first comment below your video on Youtube. |
Subject: RE: BS: John F Weldon finds religion From: Bee Date: 02 Jun 08 - 08:15 PM I'm frankly awestruck. I've just discovered JFW has been one of my Unknown Heros for many, many years. The first four year olds I watched LDW and TCCB are all grownups. I have no idea how many times I've seen them, but it's a big number. They never get old, and they are just as neat to watch the fortieth time as they were the first. John, picture me salaaming atcher feet - or, well, don't picture it, as I can see you have a lively imagination, just accept my sincere admiration. ;-). |
Subject: RE: BS: John F Weldon finds religion From: PoppaGator Date: 02 Jun 08 - 11:38 PM VERY cool. |
Subject: RE: BS: John F Weldon finds religion From: PoppaGator Date: 02 Jun 08 - 11:40 PM Oh yeah, one more thing: This is no BS! That is, I do not believe it should have been classified as "non-music." Of course, the artist himself decided to put it in the below-the-line category, so: So be it ~ I suppose... |
Subject: RE: BS: John F Weldon finds religion From: Beer Date: 03 Jun 08 - 12:19 AM I agree. This J.F.W. is very good and should be shared to all. What say ye John. How about getting it up there. |
Subject: RE: BS: John F Weldon finds religion From: john f weldon Date: 03 Jun 08 - 08:04 AM The last musical video went above the line and got only one response; which was a suggestion that it should have been below the line. It dropped off the chart in a day. (The subject matter is a bit obscure) For those who missed it... Heisenstadter On the other hand, Peta gals was dropped into an already running BS thread, and got lots of comment. It just seems like there's more action below the line, but who knows? |
Subject: RE: BS: John F Weldon finds religion From: Little Hawk Date: 03 Jun 08 - 12:36 PM There is definitely more action below the line. That is why you find me and Peace and a loyal coterie of similar goofballs down here on a regular basis. We know where the action is! Didn't you do one about naked gals awhile back too? They were protesting over something and you were trying to get them to be angry at you so they would picket your house. |
Subject: RE: BS: John F Weldon finds religion From: john f weldon Date: 03 Jun 08 - 02:29 PM LH... Yes, that was Peta gals; see my post just before yours. cheers JW |
Subject: RE: BS: John F Weldon finds religion From: Peace Date: 04 Jun 08 - 02:12 PM More than worth a refresh. |
Subject: RE: John F Weldon finds religion: Old Rugged Hammer From: GUEST,One of the JoeClones Date: 04 Jun 08 - 03:17 PM OK, let's try it "above the line" for a while and see what happens. |
Subject: RE: John F Weldon finds religion: Old Rugged Hammer From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Jun 08 - 07:44 PM John, that was great. Can you give us lessons on how to do the animation and special effects? Any really basic tricks? Sorry about the Clones - some of them are a bit too quick to rearrange things. In general, a thread is supposed to stay where the originator put it, unless it's absolutely clear that the thread is in the wrong place. We don't move a BS thread up top just because somebody posted one song in a 300-message thread. And we don't move a political or religious song down to BS just because it's about politics or religion. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: John F Weldon finds religion: Old Rugged Hamme From: Jeri Date: 04 Jun 08 - 07:56 PM John, sorry about Joe. Sometimes he gets a bit befuddled, thinks it's others who are 'out to lunch' and then announces so publicly. This is a thread about a song, and it belongs in the music section. Which is probably why Joe didn't move it back down where John started it. |
Subject: RE: John F Weldon finds religion: Old Rugged Hamme From: Jeri Date: 04 Jun 08 - 08:22 PM John, I rudely forgot to say that I listened to your song and think it's a hoot. Why not Odin, though? Thor DOES have great hair, but Odin's the Big Kahuna of Norse gods! |
Subject: RE: John F Weldon finds religion: Old Rugged Hammer From: Jim Dixon Date: 04 Jun 08 - 10:17 PM That's Knorsk, not Norse. Can't you read? Yeah it's a hoot. For more good stuff, look here: More Weldon videos at YouTube Weldon videos, comics, songs, photos, and info at his own web site. |
Subject: RE: John F Weldon finds religion: Old Rugged Hamme From: Jeri Date: 05 Jun 08 - 06:31 AM John, I was spelling it phone ettiquetely. Thanks for the other lynx. Aisle cheque them out l8ter. |
Subject: RE: John F Weldon finds religion: Old Rugged Hamme From: john f weldon Date: 05 Jun 08 - 07:02 AM Wow, now I've been on both sides of the line! Quite thrilling. One of the things I've most loved about folkie music is that it is indeed loaded with opinion; political, religious, philosophical. No wonder it's often unclear where to start a thread. I love hearing people sing passionately about issues, even those that are long defunct; the Spanish-American War, the Great Plague, the Wars of the Roses, Gnostic Theology, transportation to Australia, etc, etc. They really do cast a light on our current world. And I like to join in the fun. Thanks for all the great comments. |
Subject: RE: John F Weldon finds religion: Old Rugged Hamme From: john f weldon Date: 05 Jun 08 - 07:21 AM Joe - About Animation... ...I've often given serious thought to teaching. In the old days, at the NFB, every time I thought of a "subject area" or an important point, I'd write it down. Like a naughty schoolboy, I used to write them directly on the surface of my desk. Alas, one day they gave us all new desks, and my notes vanished. Some topics I recall: "Stretch and Squash", "Timing", "Anticipation", and "The Unseen Cameraman". Nowadays Animation is MUCH cheaper it used to be. Just the translucent cel we used cost about $1000 per minute. Film itself cost a lot, and required pricey equipment to edit. The computer makes it cheaper, but not that cheap. You'd still need to spend (on software and hardware) the equivalent of a Vintage Martin Guitar, say, to really get going. cheers John |
Subject: RE: John F Weldon finds religion: Old Rugged Hamme From: john f weldon Date: 05 Jun 08 - 07:57 AM I should note that the great Norman McLaren made a 5-part series called Animated Motion, available from the NFB. It's animation at its most basic. A great place to start, though he can be a bit tedious. "A ten frame hold differs from an 8-frame hold, in that it is slightly longer, and lasts for a greater length of time." Highly recommended. |
