Subject: Robin Hoods Bay Folk Weekend From: Soldier boy Date: 02 Jun 08 - 06:26 PM I believe that the Robon Hoods Bay Folk gathering is this coming weekend (Fri 6 to Sun 8 June 2008) but I've seen nowt about it on mudcat. Is it on? Who's going? What's happening? |
Subject: RE: Robin Hoods Bay Folk Weekend From: Herga Kitty Date: 03 Jun 08 - 05:49 AM Soldier boy, why not PM Raggytash, who's started another thread, here Kitty (who'll be singing in Devon, so won't make the Bay) PS I thought I'd already posted this but it seemed to have disappeared into the ether |
Subject: RE: Robin Hoods Bay Folk Weekend From: Big Al Whittle Date: 03 Jun 08 - 06:01 AM I think everybody's out of town at Southwell, Weymouth and stamford. I've booked accomodation for Weymouth, but I wouldn't if I'd known about Stamford. Incredible line-up. If you're a guitarist - its got to be the event of the year. |
Subject: RE: Robin Hoods Bay Folk Weekend From: Lowden Jameswright Date: 03 Jun 08 - 09:17 AM Yes - I'll be there; details here: http://folkweekend.rhbay.co.uk/ |
Subject: RE: Robin Hoods Bay Folk Weekend From: Soldier boy Date: 03 Jun 08 - 08:41 PM Thanks for that Lowden. Herga Kitty, sorry there are TWO threads now for Robin Hoods Bay but I think if you check posting times you will see that I posted first and before I started this thread I checked through 3 days of postings to see if anyone else had raised the subject and no one had. Just a minor detail. So who's going then? I went to this weekend last year and it was a really good do and was hoping there would be a good turn out again. Let's hear from people who ARE going and not from people who are so awfully busy elsewhere.....please. |
Subject: RE: Robin Hoods Bay Folk Weekend From: Herga Kitty Date: 04 Jun 08 - 02:40 AM Soldierboy - sorry, that wasn't meant as a criticism, and your thread title is more explicit too! Kitty |
Subject: RE: Robin Hoods Bay Folk Weekend From: Raggytash Date: 04 Jun 08 - 05:36 AM hi Chris Didn't scroll down far enough to see this thread so I'll go back to the one I started and direct people here ...... or is it better to have two ........ "you know two threads are better than one" |

Subject: RE: Robin Hoods Bay Folk Weekend From: Soldier boy Date: 04 Jun 08 - 06:56 PM P.S : Can someone remind me what the nearby campsite is called and where it is located above the village. This info should also be useful to those who haven't been to this lovely little festival before. Thanks in anticipation. Chris |

Subject: RE: Robin Hoods Bay Folk Weekend From: Mr Happy Date: 05 Jun 08 - 09:04 AM Stayed there years back, a pleasant & picturesque footpath from campsite to town, along old railway track & clifftop walk. Superb in bright sunshine, but need a good torch at night, having experienced a nightmarish return with only a penlight & dragging along me shopping trolley loaded with instruments!! |

Subject: RE: Robin Hoods Bay Folk Weekend From: Raggytash Date: 06 Jun 08 - 02:42 AM There is another campsite Chris and you are probably correct with its name, I think it's been done up a bit over recent years, it was just a field at one time with a portaloo! |
Subject: RE: Robin Hoods Bay Folk Weekend From: Soldier boy Date: 08 Jun 08 - 08:30 PM Sorry I could'nt make the weekend folks. Me mum was poorly and I had to help her out. Hope you all had a great weekend. How was yours? Please let me know. |
Subject: RE: Robin Hoods Bay Folk Weekend From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 09 Jun 08 - 09:00 AM Strange weekend Chris, Friday night everywhere was packed, although not of lot of musicians. Saturday afternoon there were about 6 in the Laurel, NONE in the Dolphin when I went in at about 5, and a good number outside and 3-4 inside the Bay. Not the same as previous years, but quite enjoyable for all that. Friday night in the Dolphin was great once the diners had finished but finished fairly early. Didn't get down on Sunday so can't enlighten you about that. Cheers Nick |

Subject: RE: Robin Hoods Bay Folk Weekend From: GUEST,Betsy at Work Date: 10 Jun 08 - 04:12 AM Unfortunately , I had the same Saturday experience as Raggytash.I went down a bit earlier 3 O'clockish to the Dolphin expecting a singaround /session led by Arthur?. Nowt happening, just a lot of people milling / hanging around outside the Bay. Saw the same group of musicians /singers in the Laurel who were "giving it plenty" but the room was so tiny it wouldn't have taken another couple of people . Didn't stay long and when I got back to the top of the bank, thanked my lucky stars that I hadn't taken my guitar with me. The extra weight would have killed me. As for the whole situation , no one even looked like pestering me and missus for some money for the Lifeboat Fund so I hope there was some structure in place for raising money for this noble cause. |
