Subject: Gareth Pearson:Have you seen him? From: Acorn4 Date: 11 Jun 08 - 10:11 AM Saw this young man perform at Southwell last weekend - I think he's got a great future. Gareth Pearson on Youtube What do you think? |
Subject: RE: Gareth Pearson:Have you seen him? From: Rasener Date: 11 Jun 08 - 10:19 AM There is no doubt he is an excellent guitarist, but for a non musician like myself, he is unable to sustain my interest for more than about 20 minutes. It would be a lot better (IMHO) if he sang as well (assuming he has a good voice). It would add more variety to his act. I would suspect that people who play guitar would consider his performance better than having sex :-) I have seem him live, by the way. |
Subject: RE: Gareth Pearson:Have you seen him? From: Acorn4 Date: 11 Jun 08 - 12:05 PM Possible title of new thread:- Morris dancing: is it better than sex? |
Subject: RE: Gareth Pearson:Have you seen him? From: Rasener Date: 11 Jun 08 - 12:11 PM LOL |
Subject: RE: Gareth Pearson:Have you seen him? From: Nick Date: 11 Jun 08 - 01:01 PM Morris dancing is definitely not better than sex. Mind you I probably have a jaundiced view since a drunken morris person tried to do me in in 1970. He's an excellent guitarist and a nice guy as well - my son met him at Cambridge a couple of years ago. We saw him playing with Tommy Emmanuel a year or two back and he played well both solo and with Tommy (who is obviously no mean guitarist himself) |
Subject: RE: Gareth Pearson:Have you seen him? From: GUEST,John Robinson Date: 11 Jun 08 - 01:26 PM Sorry, let me make sure I understand this. A drunken morris dancer tried to have sex with you and then went on to play with Tommy Emmanuel. Blimey. |
Subject: RE: Gareth Pearson:Have you seen him? From: Rasener Date: 11 Jun 08 - 01:44 PM He has just been mentioned on Radio Lincolnshire. They thought he was great at Southwell. Same agent as Johhny Dickinson. |
Subject: RE: Gareth Pearson:Have you seen him? From: Nick Date: 11 Jun 08 - 07:50 PM Wrong end of the stick (is that the right technical term - do Morris men have sticks?) He might have played with Tommy Emmanuel but I somehow doubt it - for some unaccounatable reason we drifted apart after he tried to throw me down three flights of stairs. |
Subject: RE: Gareth Pearson:Have you seen him? From: GUEST,Bill the sound Date: 11 Jun 08 - 08:18 PM Yes I have seen Gareth- I did the sound mixing at his gig in abergavenny a few years ago. The easiest task I've done for years, just make sure everybody can hear him he'll do the rest himself. JUST BRILLIANT! |
Subject: RE: Gareth Pearson:Have you seen him? From: BusyBee Paul Date: 12 Jun 08 - 05:50 AM Yep, saw him at Southwell. Hint - don't hang around by him and his Dad while eating chips - they try to nick them!. Excellent guitarist - I hate him! ;-) "Flash Git" doesn't even START to describe him. LOL!. Deirdre |
Subject: RE: Gareth Pearson:Have you seen him? From: Dave Sutherland Date: 12 Jun 08 - 08:35 AM In his biog it states that he has played with and supported Tommy Emmanuel and that is not entirely surprising as Tommy and (as previously mentioned) Johnny Dickinson plus Gareth are all part of Dave Smith's set up which includes a number of consumate guitarists. Dave himself was no mean guitar player in his performing days. |
Subject: RE: Gareth Pearson:Have you seen him? From: GUEST,Mike Rogers Date: 12 Jun 08 - 03:49 PM Gareth apparently started playing guitar after watching Tommy Emmanuel. After what must have been intensive work he progressed in a very short time to a standard which some of us, who have been playing for years, have tried unsuccessfully to attain. He's an incredible talent and a nice lad and having watched Tommy E from the audience has now shared a stage with him. Highly recommended. |
Subject: RE: Gareth Pearson:Have you seen him? From: Mick Tems Date: 13 Jun 08 - 10:33 AM Gareth comes from South Wales and did a Showcase at Llantrisant Folk Club. Both he and his dad are absolutely ace. We watched in wonder as Gareth did his stuff - that wasn't applause, just the collective sound of jaws dropping. I can confirm that he's played with Tommy Emmanuel; in fact, Tommy has taken delight in his young prodigy. A gifted guitarist who is bound to go places and pretty quick. |

Subject: RE: Gareth Pearson:Have you seen him? From: GUEST,dorothy morothy (deceased ) Date: 17 Jun 08 - 04:42 PM saw him at ... cant remember , anyway what does it matter where it was . I was completely astonished ... just brilliant |
Subject: RE: Gareth Pearson:Have you seen him? From: GUEST,GUEST, Dad darrio Date: 18 Jun 08 - 02:33 AM Seen him at Southwell Folk Festival. Great player with a great stage presence. He seems to have so much fun when playing, with a constant smile on his face. Also seen him and Brooks Williams (another great player) sitting down and chilling out at the "Smoothies" van and they both were having a good laugh. Great to see the performers having a great time off stage as well as on it. Also great to see them mingling and talking to anyone and everyone. |
