Our local session is under threat. The venue, The Chevy Chase in Stratford, London, UK may be turned into a lap-dancing club or strip joint if a planning application by it's owners succeeds.

If you live in or near the area and would care to object to the application please PM me and I will send you details of who to object to. The objection must be lodged before 26th June.

I thought something happened to the actor or the town in Maryland was under siege.

By the way, where do you write if you are in favor of a strip joint?

The pub is actally named after a famous battle between England and Scotland whicgh is also known as the battle of Otterburn. I don't know why the pub was so named.

Thanks for the info about the origin of the phrase "Chevy Chase." Like most of us in the US, I knew only about the suburb of Washington DC, and later the comedian/actor who undoubtedly took his nickname/stage-name from the town name. (Chevy Chase, MD, has long been a very prestigious and desirable address, one of DC's toniest and most affluent suburbs.)

I'm sure that many Americans, especially those younger than about 40, knew of the actor first, and may or may not know about the town at all. And, of course, we cannot possibly hear or read the word "Chevy" without thinking immediateyy of the automobile brand-name "Chevrolet" and its very common short-form.

HOw old is Chevy Chase, Maryland? The reason I ask is that the pub is in an area of Stratford called Maryland Point. Apparently a former landowner there had returned from Maryland, USA to build a house. Is it possible the pub was, in fact, named after the town rather than the battle? Is there a town in Maryland call Bacchus' Bin?
