The only July event currently mentioned on the website is on the 17th. I trust they'll be adding your appearance on the 10th fairly soon.

Not everyone knows your real name, as I'm sure you realize. Maybe we can figure it out once the gig is posted on the web ~ unless you're just one among many performers on your scheduled evening...

Many thanks for the lovely comments *bblushhh*   It would be lovely to see you there (Terry, Chris, Fiona & Micca), I'll save lots of hugs up for you....

I do know that I've got 2 half-hour slots so I should be able to pack in lots of songs! BTW, my name is Hilary Ward, thanks for your interest PoppaGator!

I thought that the FC web-page probably just had 'proper' performers on it, not 'novices' like myself so I wasn't worried at not being on the list. Many thanks to Tony for hopefully getting the list updated, I'll print it out & file it with my souvenirs!!

Here's some info about me from a while back!!

And here's where my web-page will be if I ever learn how to sort it out *grin*

I used to attend the MFC when I lived nr. Bourne End. The only names I remember were Ted & Rose who generally sang Fields of Athenry. That was 20yrs ago and I don't suppose they still go. The club was a bit 'mobile' - I think it was in Pinkneys Green, then the town centre and then Boulters Lock. Was anyone at the town centre venue when the police sealed off the pub due to a stabbing incident? All the mohican punks downstairs did a runner and the police only succeeded in corralling up 20+ folkies who were upstairs and didn't get out the pub quick enough! How we laughed..... Anyway, enough of my reminiscing, have a good gig MGAS and sorry I live too far away to make it.

I will be there and hopefully accompanied by moira if she is not away singing, it will be good to see you and equally delightful to hear you sing.

As for the stabbing, I was there and there indeed until well after 12 while they took all of our names, addresses and ages (that's another story) and then asked:
"did you see anything" "no I was in the folk club upstairs listening to the singing"
"well then did you hear anything" "no I was in the folk club upstairs listening to the singing"
You would think that after the first 10 or so it would have become obvious that we were all in the folk club upstairs listening to the singing.
Back to the thread see you on the 10th.

One last thing, I still maintain that Micca was banned for life when the club was formed just incase he ever turned up 36 years later.

Leadfingers - thanks for the reminder, it was indeed The Rose where the stabbing took place. And trayton, I didn't stay until after midnight despite the copper on the door to prevent us leaving. I said to him 'Are we under arrest?' He said 'No', so I walked right past him with my wife and we went home - he didn't even take our details. At the time I worked regularly with the police and knew that they couldn't stop you without arresting you. Just as well because we had a babysitter booked until 11:30 so had to get home.

Oh jacqui, that's a shame but thanks for the good wishes! Hope we get to meet up while you're over, I haven't forgotten I'll need to transfer some funds. Safe journeys Honey!

Really looking forward to this now! I've been brushing up on the best songs I know, some old, some new and with a good variety of choruses thrown in. I've even persuaded a couple of friends to lend me their musical abilities so that my unaccomplished voice doesn't send you all to sleep *grin*

'Fraid my website is still waiting creation, bit silly of me to start setting it up during festival season, I ought to know that I wouldn't have any spare time to learn how to add things to it. Ah well, at least I've got my domain registered I suppose.

It's tonight!

Er, maybe considering the time difference on either side of the Atlantic, maybe you're already on your way, or on stage, or perhaps even finsihed by now. At 1:20pm CDT, it's probably 7:20 or even 8:20 Greenwich Median... I should know, but I don't

So ~ break a leg, as they say, and by all means enjoy yourself!

Well I had a wonderful evening, thoroughly enjoyed myself *grin* Many thanks to everyone for their interest and good wishes and also to all who trekked along to join us tonight!

As a matter of interest the songs I managed to sing tonight were:

The Weaver & the Factory Maid - Trad, Steeleye Span arrangement
The Flowers of England - Chris Flegg
The Battlefield Tree - Lucy Burrow
The Dutchman - Michael Smith (accompanied ably by Breezy)
Follow the Heron - Karine Polwart
Sons of the Land - Mick Ryan
No Telling - Linda Thompson (with sympathetic accompaniment by Breezy)
Dear Diary - John Warner
Scrubbing the Miners Clothes - John Warner
Port Mahon - Trad
The Bergen - Jez Lowe
The Journey - Mick Ryan
Where Ravens Feed - Graeme Miles
This Time Again - Anne Gregson

It was such a treat to be able to sing for an evening rather than just a couple of songs in a singaround. Many thanks to Maidenhead Folk Club for giving me this opportunity!!!

This lady really does get better and better.

Lovely singing of many of my favourite songs - and (added bonus) a 'muted' Breezy.... where's the finger-picks then John? - just kidding, it was, as Terry said, very tastefully done.

A great evening.

A lovely evening with great material beautifully presented in a very welcoming and friendly club what more could you ask for??? well for a bonus 2 more of my FAVE women singers (for the curious Chris (Moses) Moira of CMR) did floor spots!!!! the icing on the cake, But the evening belonged to Hils, with the restrained (for once) Breezy. Well done Hils.

You're absolutely right, Breezy's accompaniment was definitely tasteful!! It was good to work together again, even if only for a couple of songs, but I'll enjoy supporting Breezy next week at his gig on Thursday.

Micca, you didn't mention the doughnuts *grin*

Hey, no worries Kitty but thanks anyway! I managed to sing Dear Diary for you, just hope I did it justice unaccomplished - at least remembered the words this time (I could see you prompting me)!

When you told us you'd be doing "a couple of songs," I thought you'd be making a brief appearance ~ didn't expect to see that set list of fourteen numbers.

Did you have about an hour on stage? Or maybe a little less: 14 songs would need to average just over four minutes apiece to make an hour.

trayton ~ is the photo from last night? If so, I suppose we can assume the accomopanyist in the background is Breezy...

Breezy Dear, so glad to see you've been able to log on here again (see PM)!!

Yes PoppaGator (many thanks for your support, what a good place this can be), I was fortunate enough to have two half-hour slots which I tried to fill with a variety of songs so no-one fell asleep *grin* Sang six in the first & seven in the second with an encore too but I forgot to bring the box of tissues with me - I'll remember if there's ever a next time!

Severn Dear, it would have been lovely if you had been there! Keep well Honey!

trayton, many thanks for the photo! Couldn't you get the airbrush out & make me a smaller size? *teehee*

BTW, in a couple of weeks I've got aother 30 minute slot at the RiverFolk Folk Day at Lechlade which I'm really looking forward to aswell.
