The Owl Service, Alison O'Donnell (formerly of 70s folk rock band, Mellow Candle), Nancy Wallace (of the Memory Band) and The Straw Bear Band are playing tommorrow night at Hedge, Manchester. It's only a fiver in and looks set to be a fantastic night.

It's been said of the Owl Service that they "fuse traditional British folk ballads with elements of psychedelic rock and recall the great acid-folk bands of the late '60s/early '70s but never once sound contrived or overtly retro."

Friday 20th June 2008, 8pm
The Carlton Club, 113 Carlton Road, Whalley Range, Manchester M16 8BE

Thanks!

By my calculations, catters in the British Isles have four hours to act on this. I hope it goes well.

Meanwhile, everyone who thinks Alan Garner's book 'The Owl Service' beats Harry Potter all to heck, please raise a hand.

Mine for a start! Fantastic book.

Hopefully four hours gives everyone in a 150 mile radius a fighting chance of getting the last few spaces...

Raising my hand.

And the TV series with Gillian Hills as Alison - recently released on dvd.

Meanwhile back to the original thread... guess I must investigate although I'm too far away to go to the gig.

The Weirdstone of Brisingamen, The Moon of Gomrath, Elidor and The Owl Service beat any of the Harry Potter series hands down.

Don't miss the chance to enjoy one of South Manchester's more exotic venues - deep in the heart of Whalley Range. Owl Service also excellent

It was a great if slightly underpopulated night: thanks for asking, Leeneia. I'll post a mini review when have more time. Meanwhile... The Owl Service on Myspace

Meanwhile Les, as ever, is right.
