Subject: Review: Whippersnapper concert From: Arnie Date: 20 Jun 08 - 03:57 AM Went to see Whippersnapper at Canterbury last night. What at great night! I last saw them 20yrs ago so wasn't sure what to expect now they've reformed. They were excellent and just as good as I remember them - ok, maybe just a little bit slower. Swarb hasn't lost any of his fiddling skills and he even sang a couple of numbers with what he calls his new NHS lungs! To hear him and Chris Leslie fiddling together was a real treat. Kevin Dempsey was as excellent as ever on guitar and he sang a few numbers - what a wonderful voice he has. Mustn't forget the 4th member, Martin Jenkins who was equally great on mandolin & lute. Anyway, they're only doing 5 gigs and are in Cockermouth, Cumbria tonight so if you live up that way I would definitely recommend a visit. Not only good music, but they're just such nice, friendly people - it was like spending an evening in a folk club rather than a theatre. |
