Subject: RE: Jim Sharpe @ The Welly From: GUEST,Seaking (at sea) Date: 23 Jun 08 - 05:02 PM I used to watch Jim Sharp at the Marsden Inn, South Shields in the 70's and still have a very old radio recording of him doing the best version I've ever heard of 'The band played Waltzing Matilda' (and I'm *still* trying to work out one the chords he played - where you sing the 15 bit of 1915 if you're reading this Jim). It's too far to travel for this one unfortunately. Does Jim ever play 'down south'? I'd love to hear him sing again after all these years Chris |
Subject: RE: Jim Sharpe @ The Welly From: Dave Sutherland Date: 24 Jun 08 - 02:46 PM Simply have to echo all these things said about Jim. I haven't seen him in over thirty years but he is still one of the best club singers that I have heard; he was certainly good enough to have gone professional! |

Subject: RE: Jim Sharpe @ The Welly From: GUEST,George Henderson Date: 26 Jun 08 - 08:27 AM Jim sang for a while with the Reevers in Ponteland as well as in South Shields. Guested for us in Gosforth a couple of times before I moved to Ireland. He sings a great version of the letter (French anti war song) and had a great interpretation of the Old man's song which was written by Ian Campbell. Would love to hear him again but cannot get over the water for this session |
