            I hope everyone at Mudcat are doing well . There must be a thread on this idea already but for the life of me I could not find it .. So videos on youtube and sound bites on myspace from Mudcat members would make an interesting permathread so we can all find each other and what we are doing .

         I have gotten great feed back from other clawhammer banjo people at youtube .In fact I added a simple version of cripple creek just because there are so many students there looking for that tune . When someone leaves a note you can hit on their name and se their favorites . I have found a ton of great tunes that way ..

               By the way there is a banjo player there named Zebb who has a site with an astounding page of mp3 banjo tunes that could keep me busy a year in learning tunes zebbmusic.com I think . I will put a link if anyone wants it

Fairport Convention put the lyrics of Matty Groves to the melody of Shady Groves, and as far as I know subsequent versions were covers of this.

We do have one permathread for youtube, but it's general folk/trad, not specifically Mudcatters. Oh, well, there was THIS ONE, but, as you can see, it was only frequented by a few folks, at the time. There are a lot of other threads with "youtube" in their titles, if you set the age filter back two yeas, but they are all about certain individuals/genres/etc.

The Eliza Carthy is very good too - but surely the song was traditional before her family's singing, wasn't it? I have it on vinyl by the Elliotts and that must be a recording that is 40 years old (I think Nadine was 13 when it was recorded and 15 when I saw the family sing it live)

jose, if you know the URL {website address} for the website you want to hyperlink, then copy it, and click on the "make a line {blue clicky} command that is immediately below this message box. Once you click on that feature, a box will appear that gives you easy to follow rules for the next step {which is "paste the URL, and hit the submit button, and then copy the hyperlink that appears, and finally post it where you want it in your message"}. If you want to name your hyperlink something rather than have the website address itself show {for instance, if you wanted to write "jose's YouTube"} then there is one intermediate step after pasting that URL before you hit "submit".

If you follow these directions, they should work. But don't forget to copy the entire command. The hyperlink command begins with a symbol that isn't brackets like [this but begins with the "less than" symbol and ends with the "more than symbol" {or is it the other way around? I always confuse those two mathmetical symbols}

I hope that last part didn't confuse you or anyone else who is trying to figure out how to make hyperlinks on Mudcat. I added that last part because when I was first trying to post hyperlinks, I would often forget to copy the beginning & ending symbols. Because of that, the hyperlink wouldn't work.

There are a few videos of my checkered exploits bouncing around but the latest addition to YT is my current fav, "These Old Shoes". I entered this song in a contest to win a chance to play at the Newport Folk Festival this year. It was voted the number one song of over 400 entries in the competition's monthly contest last April but sadly, that award wasn't enough to convince the festival folks to include me as one of those chose to play the event in early August this year.

A new version of Wendys nearly famous The Visitor with added Congas (by Joolz Cavell) and sound effects provided by our 7 year old son on the Thunderstick.... it's quite fun! This is 3/4 of our new band Blind Summat!, unfortunately the fiddler is missing!
