This will be our 24th without missing one, sadly I attend these days as a matter of course & now sit outside the venues instead of going in. I NEVER smoked in any of the venues before the ban, but know that I am not welcome in them now because of the ban. So I just turn up & spend my time outside, I also do that at mt own festival, very strange feeling running a festival & not seeing any of the artists on stage.
Such is life.

Happily this year I have ticket and tent at the ready. AND there is a free day between the end of term and my favourite festival, so I can unwind a bit beforehand.

Bubblyrat and I will be there. I haven't been to Warwick for a few years but am looking forward to catching up with lots of old friends there this year, including Skipy. Chris and Dave Coates (ex -Bishopswyc & Wycombe Folk Club) are also going for the first time in years and I know they too are looking forward to seeing old friends. Hoping the sun shines, though we'll enjoy ourselves whatever the weather!

I used to go regularly and thought about it this years as it is best line up for a while I think. If anyone is going for the first time its a great festival and pretty comfortable once you get your tent pegs in the ground - mind you after the flooding last year maybe the ground is a bit softer!

Have a great time

Miss Lemon, the most refreshing stall - You'll be missed.

Prior preparation and planning prevents P... poor performance
= 7 x P!!

Problem is properly packing the precise pieces for the party...and pitching in a place where the precipitation will not persist!!
I'll get me boat'

Check Saddleworth/Paddleworth thread for (8 pints) photo of where not pitch a tepee! I'll be back in the Van Galen van again!! Lucky me.
See you very soon. I'll be driving down on Friday with Carol who's never been to Warwick before!

Two years ago there was great weather - but it ended in tragedy because there was a huge electric thunderstorm and that ended in a couple of deaths as I remember.

But of course two years ago the ground was dry and it just soaked it up. Last year the ground was wet to start with.

No previously cherished second hand books this year - sorry.

Just got home after a lovely weekend, I agree with Tanglewood the weather did help, but with the choice of guest performers and the organisation that must have gone into the festival prior too, and during the weekend, meant that it was never going to fail, thank you! We enjoyed all the events we went to see, but the best performance by far was by the Wilsons in concert, on saturday night in the Bridge Theatre, they were 'FANTASTIC'. Thank you for a great weekend.

that wasn't me by the way (above)

Ray

MCDonald and Ken Johnson safely home now and me too

I had breakfast with Ken The Aussie, in the M&C food tent so i do hope he got his Jacket back (I didn't know!)

I was highly entertained by Chris Sherburn and Bella Hardy, I thought Bella reminiscent of Maddy Prior, a really expressive singer and fiddler, Chris love your comments about zips etc

Roy Bailey and Tony Benn went to standing ovations! hope you get your radiator fixed Tony!! ( must try to use that one when caught short)

The weather was as if to order, certainly a god send after the last two years

Well done to all involved and Dick Dixon for a great festival

Enjoyed the pub sings and music as well and the bus is always a great asset, very well filled too

Bellowhead, fine music and I feel that the use of the traditional songs utilising material from Tony Rose and Peter Bellamy in particular a great way to keep the living tradition alive and well

Jez Lowe as always with Kate Bramley and Andy May's Northumbrian pipes well received

Ray

Thoroughly enjoyed George and Tina too. The dancers were fantastic and deserve a medal for dancing in that heat - especially under all that make up and costume, Anahata! Roll on next year!

Had a GREAT time !! (except I could NOT stop coughing & coughing---results of tests & X-rays due on Wednesday--wish me luck !! ) I had several "highlights" and cherished memories---I thought Flossie was excellent, and very funny, as were Dave Pegg and PJ. Bellowhead were superb, as usual, although I feel that they are starting to play a lot of tunes MUCH TOO FAST !! And yes, " 4-Square" were great, if you like that sort of thing (which I do !!), and Karen really enjoyed Roy Bailey & Tony Benn, and Mrs.Ackroyd. Best dance side /team ? Well, for me it was the rappers who had their fiddler picked up bodily and carried around on his side whilst still playing---brilliant !! Sorry, Anahata---Pig Dyke were great, too !

The little amount of stuff I managed to see between being an artist AND caterer was great, but the weather was not congenial to working behind a cooking counter, I feel like I've lost a few pounds in water weight.
Didn't get to see the Wilsons (Boooooooo), did get to have a walk around town, enjoyed being part of the Women's song session again, Jez and Pennies were fab, 4 Square have gained a fan since Saddleworth so seeing them this weekend w a must and although I like Rachel Unthank and the Winterset, they are very mellow and trying to watch them when you're as tired as I was on Sunday afternoon is not easy, they have quite a lullabye quality to them and it almost worked!
Jolly good weekend all in all.
Tried to cajole Dick into booking me and George for next year and was greeted with an 'off' word, hope it was the beer talking, I was a little shocked.

Great set Muppitz. You reduced me to tears twice with 'Someday'. I hope loads of people bought your CD. I wish I'd heard you and George... but I managed to catch Flossie and Keith!!! Can't get everywhere - but I enjoyed the whole festival... , Bella's exquisite voice and Chris's remarks (!), 4 Square, George P, Jim Couza, Jez Lowe and the BP's...and Eileen McGann & David K. (I've got some new songs to learn now!) and Mrs Ackroyds Band. Pete B and GU4 singaround was superb...as were the 2 nights in the arts centre. The Tindalls sound was stunning, I'm sure there are many others to mention but I'm slightly tired after a long, wonderful Warwick!
Miriam, who sang 'we shall overcome' drew the best harmonies of the weekend in the Folk Club.
Weather brill, can that be booked again for next year???
Hopefully Linda will get south next year to catch up with all the hugs she missed. My mate Carole had 'the best' weekkend!
..particularly enjoying the dancers 'everywhere in town', and Flick and Geoff who also visited for the first time might just be back!
For info: I got the(Saddleworth)jacket back to Ken!
See you next year - or sooner! H.xx

4square were superb - despite PA problems on their first mainstage set (corrected by the second time on mainstage. Good presentation, lots of fun and incredible musicianship.

Maz O'Connor was the highlight of the festival for me. Pure voice, no artifice, well presented and every song told a story. The best young folksinger I can ever remember seeing.

Stu

I'll second that Stu.

I thought Maz O'Connor and Gu4 were my highlights.....

Hope to be back next year.

Whoops !! I meant Braeburn, not "4square " ---Sorry !! It's the skirl of the pipes that does it for me, you see !! ( But 4square were, to be honest, VERY good as well !!).

Warwick is a town festival, and the better for it. Like Chippenham it is part of the community. Plenty of pubs for ad hoc sessions. When festivals move further away the town, the town features less and you are left with grass and no roots!

I nearly always walk to the pubs but once at Warwick the bus was waiting and Steamchicken (plus plus) were well into their set all over the bus, so we had a very hot and sweaty and cramped musical ride that I wouldn't miss for the world.

And then they played for the ceilidh in the square.

All-in-all it works and you can't ask for much more. But we can thank the chief stewards - they are mostly on duty, rarely stopping. I get to see what it takes and I wouldn't do it. I do what they bid and that is enough for me.

GU4 very strong harmonies (seen at Saddleworth ff w/e before), Keelers, Wilsons, Dave Webber and Annie Fentiman ~ all stalwarts!!

Tina Taylor with George Papavgeris, new super group then eh? yes I saw you!

Tanglewood

Your photo of Whip the Cat is actually Smutt Rapper. Both are brilliant but you can tell Whip the Cat from their very fetching leopard print accssories.

Thank you for the correction Connie and apologies to both groups. I think there was a change in the program line up that I didn't catch up with.
