For anybody interested in Irish music and song; a double CD from last years Willie Clancy Summer School concert has just been issued by 'Oidhreacht an Chláir'.
Artists included are Tommy Peoples, John Kelly, Mary Bergin, Edel Fox, Joe Burke, Brendan McGlinchy, Noel Hill, Martin Hayes, ........ and many more.... 34 tracks of Irish music at its best.
The proceeds from this and future CDs will go towards the setting up of a Clare archive and visitors centre for traditional music, songs, stories and information.
Copies of this and other releases can be ordered from the O.A.C. website www.oac.ie

€29.60 includes postage anywhere in Ireland
€31.25 includes postage anywhere in the World.

It costs a little over €4 to send a single CD to the States from here, so it seems reasonable (though not cheap)

Sorry folks, but please don't shoot the messenger. I am not part of OAC so I have no idea how their prices were arrived at - I was just passing on the information.
However, a quick glance at their catalogue appears to indicate that their prices are pretty much in line with those of the retail outlets handling the same albums and books over here.
This is certainly the case with the two CDs (+ 40 page booklets) we supplied, 'From Puck to Appleby' and 'Around The Hills of Clare. We charge at the same rate we pay our suppliers, plus a slight increase to cover delivery charges to us. Let me hasten to add that this is not altruism on our part, but to ensure that we are not seen as having made a profit from local singers.
Can't speak for the postage, but I do know that, after yet another hike in postal costs here, it now costs €6.50 to send a copy of paperback book, 'Dear Far Voiced Veteran' by post.

As a non-member, I've just been alerted to this thread. To declare my interest, I am a director of Oidhreacht an Chlair, who produced the CDs, and was directly involved.

Firstly, OaC is not attemtping to 'rip-off' anyone. We are a 'not-for-profit' organisation and all 'profits' are ploughed back into the organisation. We have just purchased premises in Miltown Malbay and hope to develop them into a regional archive, etc. This has cost us a heck of a lot of money and was a major commitment.

As Jim Carroll has commented, the price of the CD (a double) is well in line with any comparable CD (see Topic, etc.,). I was also involved with the Patrick Kelly CD (a sinlge), which we sold for around Euro 20, including p&p and no one kicked up about that.

In the end, you pays your money and takes your choice but I can assure 'Mudcatters' that the quality of the music and song is excellent and the CD represents a unique opportunity to listen to the concert performances from 2008. We hope to repeat this release in future years and also to make available Cds of all the recitals, etc. I believe that Na Piobraire Uilleann intend to do the same with piping activities.

Barry

P.S. As a non-regular, if anyone wants any further information on OaC's activites, check the website (www.oac.ie) or you can email me direct (barryriley@eircom.net).
