I've just received an enquiry about suppliers of 78 RPM needles from somebody living in Ireland, who needs them urgently for a project they're working on. I live in the UK, and can order them from a supplier over here. But I'm wondering if there might be anybody selling them in Ireland.

I remember posting about a source for them ages ago - but can't remember, sorry.

It may be in thread that will turn up by putting 78 into the thread filter.

Pinco in Bradford used to make them but their site does not have a contact

steel needles are available from many suppliers, some listed below.
HOWEVER - if you are planning to transfer 78's, and/or are concerned about preserving them, I suggest using a modern cartridge fitted with a diamond stylus of the appropriate dimensions - depending on the age and condition of the recording.

The best quality needles were one-use cactus (spine) needles, hand ground.

Gee, they used to come in little manila envelopes, five needles in an envelope. They worked like little chisels, gouging the groove ever deeper....
