Did anyone else catch the feature about the stage show based on Johnny Depp's pirate project and sea shanties? As well as hearing some folkies performing sea shanties there was also the novelty value of hearing Bono, Lou Reed and Shane McGowan, as well as assorted others not normally associated with traditional music.

I think there are 3 shows, Dublin, Gateshead and London. Pity they couldn't have sorted one out for Whitby on board the 'Grand Turk'

"Aharrrgh Jim lad!"

Enough of that, I must set the tregallents!

Half asleep at the time but some reference to Keith Richards, Tom Waits and Johnny Depp. Are they taking folk club bookings?

I heard it and am just wondering wondering whether or not to commit suicide.

But no! Even though Shane McGowan causes me real pain - it's just not worth it!

Can someone combine this thread with the other one, please? Easily identified by the words "sea shanties"!

The item was to advertise the Rogue's Gallery concerts at The Sage tomorrow, a follow up to the Pirates Of The Caribbean-inspired CD of a couple of years ago which, IIRC, filled many column inches on this forum.

One extract played was a bit risqué for morning radio - it's a good job they didn't play any more of Baltimore Whores (or maybe it was a cleaned up version)!!!

I heard Whip Jamboree for the first time on Monday. And after this morning, I can't get it out of my head, either.

The "Rogue's Gallery" CD has already been reviewed & thrashed severely here before, with good reason, and it got & recieved at the Third Annual Folk Alliance Awards an award, what's up with that????

I can't find it in a search though becuse it recent & for some reason & can't search threads after the yr 2005?????

Barry

I must confess my first thought was fuck off and leave our music alone.......I know. I know I'm getting more tolerant as I get older!!!!! However one of my pet theories is that all these rock star types really want to sing ballads and trad songs (its a lovely place where I live..in my noddle) I thought it was a joke.....and the best bit was Rachel Untahnks comment ..good on you hen. However I am willing to tutor Johnny Depp in the ways of trad song.........
