Okay, I know its not folk or blues, but this fragment of a song has been with me for days and I can't get the rest of it. I think it might have been used in a commercial for something, but can't even remember what.

The only other line that I can think of MIGHT be
Dance like you don't need the money
but I'm not even sure of that.

I'm sure someone here probably does, though...

This is a line from a song called "COME FROM THE HEART" which is by one of the best damn songwriters around. His name is GUY CLARK... check out SUGAR HILL RECORDS (Durham, NC) His album (CD) is called OLD FRIENDS, Catalog #SH-CD-1025 (Make sure you tell Barry Poss, the owner of Sugar Hill, that Marc sent you.

The chorus, by the way, goes: "You got to sing like you don't need the money Love like you'll never get hurt You got to dance like nobody's watchin' It's gotta come from the heart if you want it to work"

Thanks to you, too, Marc. I've heard some other Guy Clark tunes and liked them. I'll have to hear his (original) version of this song as well.

(At least, little pieces of it aren't drifting back and forth in what I call a brain anymore. Does anyone else find that FINDING the rest of the song gets the fragments out of your system?)

Marc,

Point of order please. Guy Clark did not write this song and he'll tell you in concert that he is mighty jealous of those who did. It was written by his wife Susannah Clark and a friend named Richard Leigh. Guy claims they spent all of about 20 minutes on the sucker.

Kathy Mattea ensconced this one in the Country and Western hall of reknown.

Kathy Mattea's version is pretty acessible. There is a sound clip on CD Now, CLICK HERE. It's on her Willow in the Wind CD. Couldn't find a Guy Clark version.
