Subject: Lyr Req: ID this tune, please? From: Joe_F Date: 26 Jul 08 - 08:36 PM I have some words to this tune, but I am pretty sure they burbled up out of my unconscious. I heard it many years ago. Here it is in solfa (scale DRMFSLTdrmfslt; dots mean continuation over another half beat): m.s.m.d.rrrmr.L. T.Tdr.T.S.f.m... m.s.m.d.rrrmr.L. T.Tdr.T.S.r.d... What are the real words? I think it is oldtimy. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: ID this tune, please? From: Helen Date: 27 Jul 08 - 04:09 PM Joe F, You said you know some of the words. Could you post more info please. Where did you hear it, mal or female vocals, what sort of instruments. What is the tempo - e.g. 3/4 = waltz? While I can decipher D-Re-Mi, it's a little early in the morning (here in Australia it's 6 am and I'm supposed to be getting ready for work) to attempt it. Have you learned how to use ABC Notation- a music to text transcription method. The advantage is that once it is in recognisable ABC format it can be converted into a midi file and played. Also, it helps if you use a more specific thread title - even if you call it: ID this old-timey tune please? That gives people a chance to know by the thread title whether it is in their area of expertise or interest. Using your notation and assuming you meant that capital letters are in a lower octave than lower case letters, here is a quick transcription to the key of C major. I only have a basic understanding of ABC Notation, but someone else here might be able to make this into an ABC form. e.g.e.c.ddded.A. B.Bcd.B.G.f.e… e.g.e.c.ddded.A. B.Bcd.B.G.d.c… Helen |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: ID this tune, please? From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 27 Jul 08 - 10:00 PM Here's another site which will also supply a MIDI in addition to showing a GIF. Folkinfo's ABC Convert And Norman Schmidt has one at ABC Converter And all three work well. |
