I would like to be able to get the song as i can find no mention on the internet of it at all.
It was played on the radio in Western Australia in the 70/80's.
I would be delighted to receive any help in this regard.

Keith, I suggest that you contact Brian Corr when he's doing his 'Reminiscing' show on Curtin Radio on Sunday evenings (Curtin FM 100.1). Between Brian's own collection of records and Curtin's record library he should be able to come up with the song.

Brakn,Thanks for the Brendan shine tip. I have found a copy of Brendan singing Cotswolds on Ebay and am having a bid for it. I don't know anything about him but I will be interested to hear the song, if I get it. Preferably I would like to get a copy of Mick's rendition.
I will contact Brian Corr too.

I have the original 1982 version on a cd which was burned for me by the ABC in Geraldton. It is by Mick Connor. If you would like me to burn it for you just call York FM, which is our community radio station, on 9641-2422 on Saturdays between 6am and 10 am when I am on air or just call ABC Midwest and Wheatbelt and they should be able to provide you with a copy. This song has been the hardest by far to track down.....good luck!

Terry Larkin, Northam

From: Jim Dixon

My transcription from the recording on YouTube. (Whoever uploaded it seems to have combined it with a political message that makes no sense to me and seems irrelevant to the original intent of the song.)

THE COTSWOLDS
As sung by Brendan Shine

Are you packing your bag, son, and you're going away?
Can't say that I blame you, but you hear what I say:
Yes, your mother will miss you, but we mustn't complain,
And you'll never come back to the Cotswolds again.

Go up on the hillside; look down through the valley
From Gloucester to Cheltenham, but you've no time to dally.
Are you catching a ship today? And you know we maintain
That you'll never come back to the Cotswolds again.

It was your home, but you like to roam
Anywhere over the sea,
And when you go, we seem to know
You won't come back to your mother and me.

So we wish you farewell son; don't forget that we love you.
Drop a line when you've landed and when you're feeling blue.
But remember the old house stands through the wind and the rain,
And you'll never come back to the Cotswolds again.
No, you'll never come back to the Cotswolds again.

[Note: I have spent several minutes trying to nail down the songwriter's name—that is, verify it from an authoritative source—and failed. Is it Connor or Connors? I have seen it both ways, both in this thread and elsewhere on the internet, including the comments on the YouTube page.

[I have also seen him—that is, possibly the same person, but again, not verified by an authoritative source—referred to as "Shag" Connor, or Connors, or Conner. If this page is to be believed, the name is spelled all three ways on the same album cover!]

I believe he was lead singer with 'The Carrot Crunchers' , a group in the same genre as Adge Cutler's 'Wurzels'

Mick Connors worked under the name of "Shag Connors" with his band "The Carrot Crunchers" He also did solo gigs with a guitar and doing a kind of "stand-up" comedian/singer as Mick Connors. We both worked a pub in Fishponds (Bristol) one night.. Al

D.C. Thailand
Brendan Shine does an excellent version of this song and in my opinion as good as Mick Connors version which used to be aired by Curtin University radio and may still be played by them. I wouldn't know now as i've been away from Perth for some years but play Shines version on You Tube.

I also recently uploaded to YouTube the version that Mick Connor released under the "Play" label (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywI4hi5Lfyk). Although I prefer the version that was released under the "Logo" label, the Play version is great in its own right.

What a beautiful song. Here is Mick Connor (that's what it says on the vinyl record) singing it. The words are the same as those posted by Jim on 23 Sep 13 - 08:59 AM
