Hi~ I've been so busy with finals that I haven't had time to add input lately. I only have two days of school left and am so excited. Okay, back to the topic- how many of you play music at graduation parties? I just did with my group, Goiathe Na Cale, on Saturday. Our group, comprised of four 13 year olds, played for an hour at an open house in Bemidji. Two of our members don't have celtic music in their homes, and got in to it by pure like of the sound. We played and sang all weekend and had a great time. It sure is nice to know that there are other kids like me who love the music as much as I do. Really, we all treat the blue book better than the bible!

Bravo, Laurel !! It's great to see someone so young already doing fun gigs. I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket at your age. It's taken many years for me to learn music. What, however, is the blue book ??

Way to go Laurel! If you and your group have the time you might call the children's hospitals, old folks homes, etc., as they love hearing groups like your.

I wish you all great success.

P.S. I would like to know what that "Blue Book" is too.

Sorry! It's pouring cats and dogs and I am afraid I had rain on my mind.

Well, the blue book is just another name for the song book called Rise Up Singing, and since the book cover is blue, we call it the blue book. Thanks, Laurel

Laurel, try Folk Songs of North America, by Alan Lomax. I'm sure you can find it in your local library if you don't want to buy a copy (or you could buy it online from the support Mudcat link). I'm sure it will open a whole new world of folk music and history for you, to go far beyond RUS. -alice

Hi Laurel. In my little circle we just call Rise Up Singing "the book." And there's a Bob Dylan anthology called "the other book."

Do you do much Celtic stuff from "the book?" Or more instrumentals?

Marion
