Subject: No more Sunnycamp, Long Beach WA USA From: GUEST,mg Date: 05 Aug 08 - 07:34 PM This is not new news but some people have asked..those who have been there before know that last year was the last year..and it was going to even be the year before. I am just too plumb tuckered, although it is not really that much work. But just in case you thought this is the year you would go..oh dear. It was fun. The Parks Department is doing a maritime day and it might go to a couple of days in the future. It will be October 25th I believe. One of the main problems is that we were too dependent on people from Seattle and Portland, when my intention was to depend on more local people, with others coming in as they could. But local people really never attended, despite what I think was good publicity. It was a lot of fun while it lasted. See you at other camps...mg |
Subject: RE: No more Sunnycamp From: iancarterb Date: 05 Aug 08 - 08:37 PM Well, hell, I was one of those 'maybe this year' types, but I think you're a hero for having done it all. I always heard well of the camp and the music. Maybe this or the next Fisher Poets in Astoria. Carter |

Subject: RE: No more Sunnycamp From: Genie Date: 06 Aug 08 - 04:47 AM Sad to see Sunnycamp go, Mary. I know I've sometimes had schedule conflicts and haven't been able to attend, though I've been to 3 or 4 SunnyCamps. But you're right. Long Beach, WA, is too out-of-the-way for a camp that relies on attendees from PDX, Seattle, and other points 4 or more hours away. You'd really need more local participation. I hope we can generate more interest in other Pacific NW music camps, including RainyCamp and SingTime Frolics. And maybe there's still a chance for a late summer or early fall regional music camp, but I think either the Astoria/Cannon Beach area or somewhere near the I-5 corridor might work better. Thanks again for your energy, dedication, enthusiasm and talent in making this happen over the past few years. You are truly a NW folk music treasure, m'dear. Genie |
