Hi folks - this may be of interest to Mudcat members in the West/Central Scotland area. Or anyone who may be looking for a gig in the area.

I have just started running music nights in a great little coffee house in Lenzie. Coffee Bliss, 112 Kirkintilloch Road, Lenzie, East Dunbartonshire G66 4LQ is the location. This is an independent venture and not part of any chain. For gigs, the room will hold about 60 persons seated so it should be a really warm and intimate venue. It also has a drinks licence!

My first gig will be Special Ed & The Shortbus, from Virginia. We are getting them direct from a 7 night run at the Edinburgh Fringe. If you can't make The Fringe or any of their other tour dates, then this one here is 2 stops on the train from Glasgow Queen Street or about 10 minutes up the M80. Wednesday 27th August, starts 8pm and tickets are £10. As it is a Wednesday night, we will not be finishing late for the benefit of any poor workers who have to get up the next morning.

The music nights will be run under the banner "Pickin' and Grinnin'" and I hope to make this a semi-regular Wednesday night event. I'm happy to hear from anyone who might be looking for a gig. I can only take acts that need minimum amplification. No full drum kits or screaming Les Pauls please!

So, if you are in the Glasgow/East Dunbartonshire area and looking for a new howf, please check us out. Tickets are on sale at the venue or from Zero7736 nine36115. (replace the written figures with digits).

Thanks for posting this as I'm reasonably local and this sounds like my cup of tea. Hope to make it on 27 August. Will give you a call re tickets.

What type of musicians are you looking for, i.e. genre, or are you planning to make it quite eclectic?

Zen

Hi Zen - eclectic sounds about right. Anything with at least one foot in 'roots' of some sort.

I'm ten-minutes-away-local (as in Bishopbriggs).

Do you envisage doing free-admission events, or are you looking to have a set door price?

I'm very interested in it as a venue, and can think of a lot of things that might fit with it, but it depends on what's envisaged...

The venue is already running open mic sessions on Thursday nights and Saturday afternoons. Obviously these are free entry.

My initial aim was to offer another venue to the acts that come under the Brookfield Knights banner (generally USA Bluegrass/Old Timey/Acoustic stuff).

In addition to that I would be happy to put on anything else that was of a similar high standard, irrespective of style or origin.

The door price will reflect the artist's fee.
