I have been fortunate enough to find a Harmony Sovereign 12 string guitar (probably 1963)in very good condition. The only problem is that it needs new machine heads/tuners. I can't find any for a slotted headstock, 6 per side. Can anyone help on this one?

Alex,

Michael Hauver builds a modern recreation of the old slotted head twelve strings. He should be able to steer you in the right direction. He sometimes does restoration work if you need help with your Harmony Sovereign.

Sorry I missed this thread the other day......I was just at StewMac yesterday afternoon. I live about 40 miles away and hit the place just for the hell of it anytime I go near Athens. Over the years they have separated me from a healthy piece of money but they are a fantastic supplier and genuinely nice guys.

Oft times I have found they have an amazing amount of parts around that they no longer stock (no sales on them) but are still needed. You might write them and asked if they have any other options.

Spaw

The Turkish cumbus is a 12-string with a slotted headstock - see my website for a couple of pictures - so you might get the tuners cheap from Istanbul.   But they come in at least three different spacings, and it would be sheer fluke if any of them matched your guitar.
