Subject: BS: How do you burn an MP3 dvd-rw?
From: Kampervan

Hi there

Can anyone tell me how I can transfer tracks from my iTunes library (which is in MPEG4 format) onto a DVD-RW disc to play on my portable mp3 player.

The manual says that the albums/files must be in MP3 at 44.1kHz

The tracks all originated from my own cd's which I uploaded into iTunes, the dvd-rw's are for my own use.

Any advice gratefully received.

K/van

Hi, Kampervan -
I changed this thread to "Tech," and moved it to the music section of the forum.
I think the iTunes software has a utility for burning CD's - take a look through the menus of the software.
By the way, you will have better luck (and lower price) using DVD-R or CD-R, or CD+R. The RW discs have problems, especially if you burn them on one machine and try to use them on another.

Yes...Joe is correct. The CD-RW disks usually must be played in the drive that writes them. Regular MP3 players can't read a disc that is 'open'. When burning to a plain CD-R, you will be asked if you want to add more to it later, or to 'close' it. This makes it readable on any player.

Thanks for that Joe and Bill

I've got a couple of CD-R discs, so I'll try them and see how I get on.

I'll let you know how it goes.

A couple things--first, completely apart from time and file size, there is a limit to the number of tracks that you can put on a DVD--I think that it is 99--so you can't put, say, the 4gs Mp3's of a DVD, and play them. You could store them as data, of course, but they wouldn't play on your Mp3 player.

Second, be sure to set iTunes to burn an Mp3 CD, or it it will simple convert the files and make a standard audio CD. Do this by going to Preferences in the iTunes pull-down menu, select "advanced" then select "burning", and check Mp3 CD--

If I make up a CD of mp3 files to play on my portable CD player in my car via one of those hideous cassette adapters, I put each set of mp3 in a different folder, then burn as many of the folders that will fit on a CD. I generally listen to live gigs downloaded in flac format, which I convert to mp3 in VUplayer.

RE: Above comments...I burned 1004 Mp3 tracks [at 192k] on an [8X]DVD and it plays VERY WELL on my DVD/MP3 player

and I burned 552 Mp3 tracks [at 64k] on a 52x CD-R and it plays VERY
WELL on my MP3 player.
