There is a brilliant new recording that has been released by Appleseed Recordings - "At 89" from Pete Seeger.   The CD plays like a suite - Pete performing solo and with friends from the Hudson Valley interspersed with introductions and instrumental riffs.

The CD was produced by David Bernz, a musician and member of the group Work O'The Weavers, a group that is carrying on the work of the legendary four quartet.   David and Work O' The Weavers appear throughout the album leading verses and joining in on the chorus, along with groups like the Walkabout Clearwater Chorus and the Hudson River Sloop Singers.

Pete, who just a few years ago was retiring from performing because he felt his voice wasn't what it used to be, sings with a vigor and clarity that ranks with some of his early works.   This is a beautiful CD that gives us a glimpse into the art and convictions of Pete Seeger.

You can find out more by going to the Appleseed website - www.appleseedrec.com .

I also added a review to my website - www.ronolesko.blogspot.com

Appleseed sends out promo copies for broadcast and review, which is how I received mine, but I did see the CD for sale at the Philadelphia Folk Festival.   I believe it is also currently available from Appleseed and CDBaby, and I understand that it will be available from iTunes on September 8.

Of all the albums one receives this one, I must say, was greatly anticipated. As I noted on my playlist for TRADITIONS this past Sunday, it is, if you compare it to a symphony, a most wonderful later (I won't say last) movement in a career that, I doubt, has been ever equalled by any artist I can think of.

Many sing of problems and solutions. How many do that and are active and create change? One cannot say more.

That said, musically, it is a treat to hear---from Pete to all the others on the CD with him. Names too numerous to mention here.

"This man is really an outstanding entertainer. :

He is much more than just an outstanding entertainer! If you listen to this CD from beginning to end (which is really the best way to hear the message), it comes across that Pete has always been an observer and educator who teaches us that WE can make the change. It is individuals that make a difference and Pete shows us through his music and actions that it is possible.

This is a very hopeful CD and I hope everyone has a chance to hear it - from cut 1 to 32!

I meant to add to my last post on this that besides the music and the activism we should also note another thing---many artists sing and speak in protest but I can think only of Pete Seeger when I think of a voice that has always been positive and never negative. In words and deed. There are a few but, sadly they have long since passed on which is why I say I can think of only one---Pete Seeger.

Yet another cd from one who is, to me and to hundreds of thousands of others, a true patriot and hero and, best of all, a fine person.God willing, if I never get to buy another cd, this is the one I will get.An eternal optimist, a great humanitarian...what more can I say?

Look at this! I found it today..Oh Boy!

These are the inspirational words which Pete quotes at the very beginning..and how *true* they are.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead

Pete Seeger & Marjora Carter - The Brave Nation (video)

In my book many of those citizens are our powerful songwriters, the DJs of integrity, who are getting their music 'out' again, at long, long last...and the people who are absorbing the message that's coming through in those songs, who then pass it down the line.

We can't change this world around without them.
