Next folk club evening will be a Guest Night featuring the talents of Andy Davison and Graeme Carroll, better known as Brother Crow. Following the success of their debut CD One for Sorrow, they have a new CD available called Hollow Hills and we'll be getting a sneak preview before it's official launch on 16th Sept. We may well also be treated to seeing Andy's new 7 string guitar!.

Venue: Melrose Club, Melrose Road, Gainsborough. DN21 5SA

Doors open 8.15 for start at 8.45 sharp!

Tickets: £5 available at the door (£3 for paid up members)

I promise you a great evening of music.

Deirdre

Wow, browsing Mudcat after Osmotherley I found a thread mentioning us that WE didn't start...!!!

We're looking forward to Gainsborough very much...we know one or two folks down there (BBP especially). If I remember rightly, we can do Gainsborough "au natural", i.e., without a PA, which will make a nice change for us.

I'll make sure Andy brings the Seven string...he might even let you have a go if you ask him...

For information, the new CD, Hollow Hills, is out now - rather earlier than expected.

See you all soon,
Graeme,
Brother Crow.

"If I remember rightly, we can do Gainsborough "au natural", i.e., without a PA"

Graeme - if you want to do it au natural AND without a PA - be my guest! I'll make no smutty comments about Andy needing a guitar to cover his embarassment whereas you can manage with a mandolin - well, I wouldn't be so rude now, would I?!

We're really looking forward to your visit and I can't wait to get my hands on the new CD.

See you soon!.

Deirdre

I will not comment either. I wonder if they fancy themselves as the Red Hot Chilli Peppers of folk. I suppose Graeme could use his octave mandolin then...

CD is great and the cover with photos by our good friend Mark is amazing. Beautiful images of our local landscape.

All the best
Ruth

But we've discovered that Graeme has other hidden talents - at Osmotherley, we saw him DANCE (in the broadest sense of the word, that is).

CD is brilliant!!!

Leveller - I think I'll draw the line at dancing - LOL!

Are you likely to grace us with your presence?. You'll be made very welcome. (Even if you are rubbing it in that you've already got the new CD).

Deirdre

Thanks for the invitation, Deidre. Unfortunately, Friday is a bit of an awkward night for us. I don't get back from work until 7.30, then it's our son's badminton night so we have to provide a taxi service and we lose our babysitter.

We will try to make it one night, though (looked on the map and it's only about 20 miles away from us). In the meantime, have a great evening.

Pete and Jools

P.S. Did I mention that the new CD, which we've been playing constantly since Sunday, is brilliant?

So sorry about that Deirdre, it is a bit unkind of the Leveller to rub it in like that.

I am sure I can get the lads to SWALK your copy.

"I am sure I can get the lads to SWALK your copy. "

Now THERE'S an offer I can't refuse!.

Leveller - only 20 miles and you've not been here yet?! You'll just have to put the folk festival weekend in your diary - 24th - 26th October. PM me your address (email or snail-mail) and I'll send you the details.

I may not have mentioned this before, but Hollow Hills is an absolutely brilliant CD and if you haven't got your copy yet, I believe they're on sale on their website if you can't get down to see them at Gainsborough or up to Roots North (don't be the only person in the whole of the country without a copy!)

Thanks Mr. Leveller Sir...very kind of you !

Sales are going pretty well so far, we're over a third of the way towards breaking even...it's a scary thing releasing a new CD...!

Looking forward to Gainsborough very much...

All the best folks,
Graeme,
Brother Crow.

P.S. my dancing was very poor, but as for Richard G., well....oh dear, oh dear !!!

Thanks, Ruth. Problem is, I've underestimated the distance a bit – it's actually 50 miles, not 20 and as I don't get home until 7-30 it would be a bit of a rush. Anyway, I'll see what Jools says – it would be great to see you both again and to hear more from the CD (which, if anyone hasn't got round to buying it yet, is brilliant).

Graeme, as for the dancing, I though it was an impressive (and totally hilarious) effort all round. In fact, I think we should start our own morris team, then we could do some real damage!

Tim, those of us who didn't succumb to the delights of Mamma Mia! had a brilliant evening with Brother Crow. Those of you who missed them should be kicking yourselves!.

Next club in a fortnight will be a singaround, the one after that will have guests "Better Late than Naked".

At this point I'd better say that we don't really have a thing about naked performers!.

Leveller - I've got me copy of Hollow Hills now - so there!.

Great night. Nice guys, good songs well-played and sung, loadsa laughs. Yes, REALLY, we larfed! - the songs might make you want to slit your wrists, but the between-song (and sometimes during-song!) repartee was frequently hilarious. Great stuff, and looking forward to some more some time.

Oh, and by the way, it's the TWIST, yer pillock!
