Yes I know we hated 'Beasts of the Road' but we have one and we like it.

We went to Shrewsbury and I would say, apart from being a great festival, it was very caravan friendly. Plenty of space, easy entrance and exit, flat and well drained, that sort of thing.

Can other caravan toting festival goers recommend caravan friendly festivals?

Cheers

Beverley is good and we've never had any problems at Cambridge.

Shepley has an awkward entrance - though nothing like impossible, once it it is great.

remember...only in the UK does 'caravan' describe an individual towed vehicle.

MY mind sees a long string of vehicles, and perhaps a few horses and camels, traveling as a group, all lined up at the gates of a festival.

How good would that be?!!

(as long as they didn't bring dogs, of course.)

Whitby on the Moor and Coast site is great, apart from a tight entrance if you have a twin axle. BB Benders are great too.

Cleckheaton Folk Festival (First weekend in July) has a lovely flat field. We take our caravan and we only live 20 minutes away by car.

Towersey and the Wareham Wail are caravan friendly, if a little lumpy in the former case and a gauntlet for the latter... the track gets a little more than lumpy in one or two places - but it seemed to be popular this year. More vans than last year.

Fox and Hounds is a song and ale, not a festival but the pub where we hold it has a camping and caravan club certificated site. As flat as you will get on Dartmoor, hook ups and water points all round, although the hook ups need booking in advance.

Saddleworth is good, as early arrivals get to park on the running track; like a hard standing really. Bedworth is ok, where they use the Rugby club car park, although this can get crowded. Second the view about Moor and Coast being good, although I found the entrance ok for my twin axle (approach angle/direction makes a difference!). Middlewich Folk and Boat is great, with parking on a huge flat playing field, very easy access and close to the main venues without being close enough for noise to be a problem.

Cottington Lakes is guite hande (taxi-in distance) for Deal but the speed bumps in teh entrance road can scrape your bulldog.

Pigs Ear is a stick in the mud if it has raing in the previous week

Knockholt this year was exciting despite a level and adequately wide approach and exit - but the weather was fit for Noah.

Ely was good for trials enthusiasts last year, and the promise that this year vanners with morris sides could park with their side was not kept

"remember...only in the UK does 'caravan' describe an individual towed vehicle."

Wrong - it is a common expression in Australia... :-P

We had no trouble this year getting the caravan into /onto one site or another at Fareham-Banbury (it SNOWED !!)- Boarhunt ("Forest Folk")-Alcester-Warwick-Bude-Sidmouth-Grove ("White Horse")-Swanage (not level, but power hook-up,nice loos, and only 10 minutes walk from "The Crows Nest "!!). Leicester, NO ! We had to use the tent, BUT we have discovered how to (probably) be able to take the 'van next year (Not telling you ! ).Should have no trouble for the remainder of this year either, at Banbury (again) and Bampton, Devon ( all those Frenchmen with Bombardes !).

so, a caravan is a trailer?
and then what is a van?
what about motor homes or r.v.'s?

i did see a trailer made up to look
like a conestoga ("covered") wagon
at the last music fest. i attended.

like this "prairie schooner" but with rubber tires

A van is a hard-top motor vehicle smaller than a lorry or heavy goods vehicle adapted or constructed for the carriage of goods not passengers. The smallest are based on cars, even from Vauxhall Corsa size. Once above about 3/4 tonne carrying capacity they may be purpose designed (US - "Panel Van") eg Ford Transit Bedford CF and Mercedes Sprinter.

A motor home is a campervan.

What, indeed, is an RV? I believe it stands for "recreational vehicle" but that covers a multitude of sins (perhaps literally).

yes, "recreational vehicle" can mean many things
could be towed--a tent trailer or solid trailer,
or a self-contained motor home or a camper shell
which fits on the back of a pick up truck

classified as class a, b, or c.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorhome

http://www.strawberrymusic.com/about_the_festival.asp#camping
has a large area for trailers,

Van Morrison is a Van. So was Van Heflin (and Van Gogh, of course).

Otley festival http://www.otleyfolkfestival.com/ (18th September this year)always has a great campsite that welcomes caravans, camper vans and other combinations of vehicle/trailer. The camp site security guys are caravanners themselves. It's not a bad site to access and is well served with porta loos, standpipes etc. No electric hook up but who really needs that for a weekend!!
