Subject: RE: tenterden folk fest fri3rd- sun5th oct From: open mike Date: 17 Sep 08 - 01:28 PM it seems a sin-around might be attended by a negative sort of crowd. they will all throng to: Tenterden Folk Festival 2008 There will be a bigger-than-ever selection of traditional folk music, song and dance from across the world, pub sing-a-rounds, sea shanties, morris dancers, mummers, clog dancers, chimney sweeps and hobby horses, along with craft fairs and displays. Tenterden's Town Hall and streets will be lined with a colourful array of traditional arts and crafts stalls stocking everything from stained glass windows to cider, folk music CDs to wood carvings. The pubs will resound to the strains of traditional music and song of Kentish, British and international origin, late-night jamming, toe tapping and tankard raising. Subject: RE: tenterden folk fest fri3rd- sun5th oct From: romany man Date: 18 Sep 08 - 12:23 PM RB, I think im loose as well, oooooooooo boy could be fun, what about camping, i aint goin to the rail yard site though, its sssssooooo yukky |
Subject: RE: tenterden folk fest fri3rd- sun5th oct From: Richard Bridge Date: 18 Sep 08 - 04:21 PM Rail Yard site is best. You need to book. You will be fine with 4*4 and can subsidise weekend by towing people out! If you go to the out of town campsite it is a PITA - the bus in is too early, you cannot carry all the bottles of beer you will drink so the drinking cost increases (alternatively, you drive in and have to stay sober) you can't get back to the site for lunch so you have to buy an overpriced lunch in a gastropub, bus timetables are works of fiction, and you have to watch your watch like a hawk to avoid missing the last bus back and it's a sodding long walk. Go "Central Camping". It was nearly empty last year, more fool me for finishing up by two people with two large, noisy, and aggressive Airedale terriers. |
Subject: RE: tenterden folk fest fri3rd- sun5th oct From: Bo Date: 19 Sep 08 - 01:51 PM I am really looking forward to catching up with old freinds and making new ones, hopefully. Subject: RE: tenterden folk fest fri 3rd- sun 5th oct From: My guru always said Date: 22 Sep 08 - 04:01 PM I had the same problem last year when I was thinking about camping. Subject: RE: tenterden folk fest fri 3rd- sun 5th oct From: Richard Bridge Date: 05 Oct 08 - 02:36 PM I'm beginning to think I have a potntial second career as a rainmaker. If you have a drought, let me know, and I'll bring the caravan... The wind also (not the flatulence) was making the earth move! Several nice sings with the B. But one of us is a bad influence on the other (not sure which) as Friday night ended at about 0230 AM Sat amongst wine and smelly cheese, and both of us were a bit green for the fried breakfast at 10.15 am. It ain't the same without the 8 Bells. |
Subject: RE: tenterden folk fest fri 3rd- sun 5th oct From: romany man Date: 05 Oct 08 - 02:41 PM when i dgot there mr bridge the bard seemed a bit more compus mentis than the voice from the depths of the caravan, the rain must be your fault cos i wasnt there on the sunday and the saturday had little in the way of wet stuff, see you at otford, a few of us are going down during the week to try and find a vardo stop, |
Subject: RE: tenterden folk fest fri 3rd- sun 5th oct From: Richard Bridge Date: 05 Oct 08 - 05:08 PM Cool. Does that mean I have to get a proper vardo, or will my trailer do?? |

Subject: RE: tenterden folk fest fri 3rd- sun 5th oct From: Girl Friday Date: 05 Oct 08 - 09:28 PM Sorry JB felt rough and not ready for Tenterden. When shall we three meet again? |
Subject: RE: tenterden folk fest fri 3rd- sun 5th oct From: Valmai Goodyear Date: 06 Oct 08 - 04:01 AM An excellent festival! There was enough dry weather on Saturday for a good turn-out of dancers, and very splendid they looked decorating the High Street. Cracking performances from The Claque, the Askew Sisters and Mawkin (couldn't get to hear everybody because of being on duty some of the time). It's good news that the Tenterden Club has already been booked for the duration next year. Glory be, it has Harveys Best Bitter. Not that this would influence me in the slightest. Valmai (Lewes) |
Subject: RE: tenterden folk fest fri 3rd- sun 5th oct From: Derby Ram Date: 06 Oct 08 - 05:51 AM Hi, Sylvia Here. I'm going to add another name, Tony Carling. Singer songwriter. Not what I was expecting at Tenterden, but I'm glad Alan booked him and I really enjoyed his set, and I'd like to see and hear more. Great sense of humour and fun, but thought provoking, sometimes taking you in a direction you weren't expecting! If you go onto his website y www.tonycarling.co.uk (hope the blue clicky thing has worked, my first time)you'll see what I mean. Read the story of his early years - when you've read it, you'll see why I say "story" and not auto-biography, and you'll get the feeling of his sense of humour as well. Cheers - Sylvia |
Subject: RE: tenterden folk fest fri 3rd- sun 5th oct From: Richard Bridge Date: 06 Oct 08 - 06:10 AM More impressed with the Claque and Gifford, as they dropped into the singarounds. Rumour has it margarine was as impressive as usual... |

The bill was particularly sharp this year, everybody that was on was someone I'd travel miles to see without a second thought:- The Claque, The Askews, Doug Eunson & Sarah Matthews, Mawkin, Jim Bainbridge, Tom Moore & Archie Churchill Moss (latter were in great form)and the list goes on. I really enjoyed Mr Carlin too! I even had a warble myself and with Sylvia Needham. Many thanks to Alan and the team for an absolutely splendid and thrilling weekend! Looking forward to next year already! |
