Hello folks. I've put together a new and greatly improved website to promote my original songs:

www.marionparsons.com

You'll find most of the songs I've written there, with lyrics, chords, backstories, and MP3s for most of them. There's also an offer to send a CD with your choice of songs on it.

I tend to write the kind of new songs that folkies like - lots of history, story-telling, and traditional melodies, and no "navel-gazing".

Hope you enjoy it and that you find something you might like to sing.

I'm going to get into your site in earnest tomorrow, Marion. The two songs you contributed to my site back in 2004 capture the reality of the early Newfoundland Sealing industry like no others. :-)

Hi Marion,
So far I have only been able to listen to a couple of songs but they were great! I especially loved the reply from Maggie. It has always rankled me to see "Maggie" attributed as Irish or Scottish traditional!
On an aside the Blue's Mills Firehall is being enlarged and if you ever get back to Cape Breton we would love to see you there! The ceilidhs still go on every second Friday.

Thanks to everybody for taking the time to check my site out. Sorry for the delay in following up on this thread - I've just gotten back from a week away.

GEST, I liked the links to the two hymns in Newfoundland Sealing Disaster - I think that's something new since I was last at your site. Those two hymns were both named in the book Death on the Ice (as well as a few others I don't remember).

Wilbyhillbilly, are people still requesting CDS from you (other than me)? If so, then yes, you should just refer them to me - the versions I have now are cleaner recordings since they were done in a studio and straight to digital. Also, there are several new songs I would choose to highlight in sending a mix.

Thanks Jed. Did you happen to check the influences page? I've got links to some of your stuff there. If playing my MP3s doesn't come easily to you, I'll be glad to send you a CD of my newer songs.

Sandy - I sure do want to go back to Cape Breton, if only for a visit. I'll figure that out eventually...

Technical question for anybody: is it easy/possible for visitors to my website to download my MP3s, the way they are now? I do want to give explicit permission to download, but wanted to be sure it's technically feasible before I state that on the homepage. FWIW, I built the site using the "iweb" program that came built in with my Mac, and am hosting it on Mac's "mobileme" service.

Hi Marion, It's your sister Kendra. I had chance to listen to your songs. They are great. I'll get you to play them next time I see you. It will be quite a treat. HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!! Hope you have a great day. I guess you heard that we are planning to go to Florida, leaving on the 18th. I know you are really busy with work and all.
Natalie is in Italy right now. She was chosen to resite a poem during the Battle of Ortona Parade. There are about 1400 students across Canada that are there now. They have also toured around the country as well.
