Subject: Nic Jones Clips From: pavane Date: 03 Oct 08 - 02:35 AM Don't get excited. These are just his spoken introductions to some of his songs. Nic spent a lot of time researching songs, and he explains where he got them. |
Subject: RE: Nic Jones Clips From: pavane Date: 03 Oct 08 - 02:37 AM Sorry, that escaped before I had finished. To listen, go to my web site here Click on Private area and enter the password, which is nicjonesclips (Exactly like that - all lower case). |
Subject: RE: Nic Jones Clips From: Jeanie Date: 03 Oct 08 - 03:54 AM Thanks very much, Pavane. You and I have "virtual-reality chatted" before on here about seeing Nic Jones in the Essex folk clubs in the late 60s/early 70s. What a great introduction that was to traditional songs - and yes, he always had such interesting (and often very entertaining) information about them. Thanks so much - if I close my eyes and listen to these clips, I am back in the back room of "The Castle", Ongar Road, Brentwood ca. 1970. Happy memories.... - jeanie |
Subject: RE: Nic Jones Clips From: GUEST,Pavane Date: 03 Oct 08 - 04:24 AM Yes, I remember. It was some years ago. Although I am from Essex, and frequented clubs in the area in the 1960's and early 70's, (Blackmore, Hornchurch, Collier row), I don't remember ever seeing him live until I went to live in Wales. |
Subject: RE: Nic Jones Clips From: pavane Date: 03 Oct 08 - 05:07 AM I still have some more to extract and upload, but cannot until next week. It will include Paddy and the Whale, and maybe others. |
Subject: RE: Nic Jones Clips From: Ian Carter Date: 03 Oct 08 - 11:07 AM That brought back some happy memories of Peasmouldia, the famous Derby Folk Club, where I was "resident" for a time, with "Back Kitchen" (starring the enquenchable Arf Billington and the lovely Barbara Wynch). That was some while ago! |
Subject: RE: Nic Jones Clips From: Susanne (skw) Date: 04 Oct 08 - 09:13 PM I'd be interested to listen, but for some reason the site doesn't let me enter but clears the password when I click on 'Enter'. Has anybody else has this problem? |
Subject: RE: Nic Jones Clips From: rodentred Date: 05 Oct 08 - 08:38 AM It all just worked OK for me. Thanks for sharing these memories |

Subject: RE: Nic Jones Clips From: pavane Date: 07 Oct 08 - 05:04 AM I MUST have seen him live, without realising it at the time, because I remember discussing White Copper Alley (Lass of London City) with someone (by the name of M. Carthy) at Collier Row, before I moved to Wales. Susanne Do you still have this problem? Which OS and Browser if so? And you need to havê Javascript enabled. |
Subject: RE: Nic Jones Clips From: GUEST,KD Date: 07 Oct 08 - 06:06 PM It did not work for me??? |
