Don't get excited. These are just his spoken introductions to some of his songs. Nic spent a lot of time researching songs, and he explains where he got them.

Thanks very much, Pavane. You and I have "virtual-reality chatted" before on here about seeing Nic Jones in the Essex folk clubs in the late 60s/early 70s. What a great introduction that was to traditional songs - and yes, he always had such interesting (and often very entertaining) information about them.

Thanks so much - if I close my eyes and listen to these clips, I am back in the back room of "The Castle", Ongar Road, Brentwood ca. 1970. Happy memories....

Yes, I remember. It was some years ago. Although I am from Essex, and frequented clubs in the area in the 1960's and early 70's, (Blackmore, Hornchurch, Collier row), I don't remember ever seeing him live until I went to live in Wales.

I still have some more to extract and upload, but cannot until next week. It will include Paddy and the Whale, and maybe others.

That brought back some happy memories of Peasmouldia, the famous Derby Folk Club, where I was "resident" for a time, with "Back Kitchen" (starring the enquenchable Arf Billington and the lovely Barbara Wynch).

That was some while ago!

I'd be interested to listen, but for some reason the site doesn't let me enter but clears the password when I click on 'Enter'. Has anybody else has this problem?

I MUST have seen him live, without realising it at the time, because I remember discussing White Copper Alley (Lass of London City) with someone (by the name of M. Carthy) at Collier Row, before I moved to Wales.
