Subject: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: romany man Date: 03 Oct 08 - 05:54 AM Our local pub is a very folk friendly pub and supports demelza house charity, as well as letting the gongscourers drink there after practise, they want to have a folk day, its a smallish pub but the welcome is huge, we danced there in the summer and the place was packed, they are offering a barrel of beer from shepard neame, loads a grub usually, they will be shutting the car park for dancers should you be of that way inclined, musicians can play to thier hearts content, be sure of a great welcome, this could be the start of a new folk venue in north kent, they are thinking of end of octoberish but need to know if anyone is interested, can folks post to thread and i will pass on info, then update, |

Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: GUEST Date: 03 Oct 08 - 07:10 PM Hi Romany man This sounds like fun, Crayford and the surrounding area is where many of my ancestors lived and Lesley and I now live just down the lane from Demelza house and so we always try to support any events aimed at raising money for them ~ I'll watch this thread for a date and hopefully we'll be able to get along there. Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: fisheye Date: 05 Oct 08 - 05:59 AM A local one in North Kent (Crayford) would be nice, I am sure it would be well attended, if the right day is chosen. It should encourage the London folkies to venture. especially as the old bus pass can get you there free. The FolkMob and Orpington Folk clubs are quite local. Possibilities of camping may be difficult though, however if it develops there are a few fields not too far away that may be approached. regards fisheye |

Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: romany man Date: 09 Oct 08 - 10:46 AM ok now we are cooking, the day will be what we make it, its the first of many that they want to put on, its the most folk friendly pub i have been to ever, and they are so into doing anything for anybody,so i feel that we could really create somthing here as its a blank canvas so to speak, |
Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: romany man Date: 09 Oct 08 - 10:58 AM Sorry forgot to say thanks motley, your the first to say you will come, hopefully the gongscourers and maybe bishops gundulf will be able to make it, i have not got a list of beers yet but when i do i will post it, shep neame seem to be behind the day all the way, the staff are preparing posters, the regulars cant wait, so seems it will be a good day, if we support ourselves and turn up and play dance sing and of course drink. |
Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: GUEST,Motley Muso Date: 09 Oct 08 - 12:16 PM Oops - Maybe I should clarify.... I didn't say we'll have a side, just that I'd ask them and Rob & I would probably be there. sorry to over-excite ! Lisa |
Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: romany man Date: 09 Oct 08 - 05:13 PM ok if a side can make it all the better there will not be a programme as such, just a day of merriment and music and of course drink, sides are more than welcome as the pub love it, by the pub i mean the landlady and landlord, staff and the regulars, the gongs use the pub as our drinking hole after practice and it has now become many of our s local, if the side cant make just come and have fun, jam a bit, drink a bit, that goes for all, however the car park will be set aside for dancers. |
Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: Girl Friday Date: 12 Oct 08 - 02:48 PM We can probably bus it. |

Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: romany man Date: 13 Oct 08 - 04:26 AM doubt it very much as you would have to share with their rather large dog, who can be rather anti social. hope you still able to come, its only a few minutes walk from crayford railway station, or by car 5 mins from black prince turn off buses are frequent from dartford bexleyheath and all points n.s.e.w it going to be an open house, no schedules, no timetables, just a good old folk day where musicians dancers singers can all do thier thing as and when, still short on morris dancers, |
Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: GUEST,woodsie Date: 13 Oct 08 - 05:27 AM I've looked at the rail timetable and you can get a train to Crayford from Lewisham! If there are no line engineering works that weekend, I'll be there! |
Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: romany man Date: 13 Oct 08 - 01:27 PM hi woodsie, i think its on the bexley line, if not get to dartford and you can get a bus straight there, or you can get the train to slade green and get off there and get bus to crayford, failing that get the bus 89 i think from lewisham to bexleyheath change there get bus to crayford, R.M |

Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: Girl Friday Date: 14 Oct 08 - 10:07 AM The 89 Bus stops at Slade Green Station. It also goes to Erith, Bexleyheath and other places. There is a bus- I think it's the 269 which goes from Sidcup- opposite Blockbuster video through Eltham, Bexleyheath. For those of you who know "The Bear and Ragged", it's walking distance from there. |
Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: GUEST,PETER THE HAT Date: 14 Oct 08 - 10:12 AM Hi Romany man I will go for it but its your thread and I did not want to tread on your toes. flyer gives name of pub. address. with postcode. and reads FOLK AT THE CRAYFORD ARMS SUNDAY ETC ETC real; ales. food dancing.from noon to night SO BRING YOUR INSTUMENTS WITH YOU. THERE A LOGO AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FLYER. DONT WORRY I FLY THE HOOD PUB IN GREENWICH NOT THAT SURELY SHOWER WILL COME. ALSO BLACKHEATH FOLK CLUB AND TUDOR BARN HOME OF FOLKMOB. THE FLYERS ARE OLD ONES BUT ALTERED ON SCANNER AND REPRINTED. FOR CRAYFORD. AND i VISIT THE CLUBS ANYWAY. SO THATS NO PROBLEM, I WILL KEEP A FLYER ASIDE TO SHOW YOU GOOD LUCK SEE YOU ALL THERE. |
Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: romany man Date: 14 Oct 08 - 11:10 AM OK mate, just hope we get good day out of it, not just your flyers, i mean the whole thing, its not often a pub turns itself over to an unknown entity, essex girl you know too much about this area, worries me. ha ha |
Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: GUEST,Edward Date: 14 Oct 08 - 01:55 PM Pete - watch out for the ignorant prat at the Oak tonight he doesn't like people putting flyers out in his pub "advertising other pubs" is what he says. |
Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: VirginiaTam Date: 14 Oct 08 - 02:34 PM That's Girl Friday... give credit where it is due. Clue is in the name. Girl "Friday" = allusion to Robinson Crusoe's "Man Friday" so regarded as an assistant known for getting the job (any job) done. |
Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: romany man Date: 16 Oct 08 - 04:27 AM oh far to confusing for me, then anything confuses me, seems dead horse are coming we are awiting confermation from two other sides, so we will have singing playing as well as dancing sounding good, |
Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: GUEST,Pete the Hat Date: 16 Oct 08 - 07:26 AM Edward. Thanks for the above advice. What that Landlord needs to learn is that there are other pubs then the British Oak its quite apparent to me that The Oak just turns over like any other pub so whats he on his high horse about ? personally I do not think much of the pub myself or the staff for that matter. I did not fly Blackheath in the end but I did fly The Tudor Barn Home of Folkmob, and will do other venues. |
Subject: RE: folk day at the crayford arms crayford From: GUEST,Motley Muso Date: 16 Oct 08 - 09:10 AM Motley have almost definitely got a side for this - will confirm next week Lisa (One of the "surely shower from the Hood" who WILL be coming !!!!) |
