Well done to Carrie and Peter for getting this going again. I'd guess there were 40'ish people there, providing a great atmosphere. Some super singing from the residents (Warp and Weft),audience, both sets of shanty boys and of course Johnny. There did seem to be a bit of a lyrics 'Bermuda Triangle' in operation last night, but hey what, that's live music for you. Really looking forward to our gig there on the 21st November. Keep it going! |
Subject: RE: Pump House Folk, Watford, UK, Fridays From: carriepipes Date: 01 Nov 08 - 02:18 PM Hello! (we can't wait to have you play Steve on the 21st!) Thanks to you all for coming down and supporting the shanties night as well as Johnny, you Herga folk really know how to deliver a chorus with Oomph!! (we all avoided that 'spot' infront of the stage this Friday to avoid any loss of memory!) We raised a great donation for Lupus UK and every-one thoroughly enjoyed the songs and the history behind them. Hopefully see you along this Friday (7th) as your George is playing huzzah! All the best. |
Subject: RE: Pump House Folk, Watford, UK, Fridays From: Singing Referee Date: 01 Nov 08 - 04:29 PM Hope to be there! |
Subject: RE: Pump House Folk, Watford, UK, Fridays From: Singing Referee Date: 05 Nov 08 - 07:22 AM Don't Forget! George Papavgeris at the Pump House this Friday. Not to be missed. We don't get the chance to hear 2 full sets from the fabled Greek that often round these parts anymore, now that he's an (inter)nationally renowned artist! |

Subject: RE: Pump House Folk, Watford, UK, Fridays From: Singing Referee Date: 15 Nov 08 - 09:23 AM Sorry I couldn't be there Hamish. On my way home from business trip to Germany. Sure you gave the Pumpers a great evening! Steve |
Subject: RE: Pump House Folk, Watford, UK, Fridays From: breezy Date: 15 Nov 08 - 03:16 PM Hamish is Loopy, like Pink Floyd without the light show, Great sounds mate cant wait to get another taste Thanks for the lift Fleggy next week its Christine Connolly and Steve Last You'll have to wait until Fri 27th March 2009 to catch me the guys at the Pump are doing a great job Its starts early at 8.00 to give aspiring singers a chance to strut get along if you are in the area nice beer nice price |
Subject: RE: Pump House Folk, Watford, UK, Fridays From: Singing Referee Date: 17 Nov 08 - 12:44 PM OK, self promotion time is here! Guess who are the main guests at the Pump House this Friday 21st Nov. You've got it, it's Moses and The Ref! Two x 40 minute sets of classic and new (Christine's) folk songs, performed in spell-binding harmony. Well.... so somebody else once said! Plus of course, preceded by the usual aray of talented residents and floor singers. www.mosesandtheref.org.uk if you want to check us out. |
Subject: RE: Pump House Folk, Watford, UK, Fridays From: breezy Date: 17 Nov 08 - 01:19 PM my backing vocalists are stepping out! Steve's gentle harmonies blend beautifully with Christine's sultry tones and the result is hypnotic. And vice versa. They possess an excellent repertoire and Christine's compositions are well worth catching and bear in mind that Christine was the last winner of the prestigious Maidenhead F C song competition back in 2007, and runner up the time before in 2005. It promises to be a most enjoyable evening as the club has some fine individual resident performers which is a sound basis for any aspiring club and charges are reasonable, and so is the beer and they have a weekly quiz during the breaks. Songs start at 8.00 so as to fit in an odd floor singer or two!! |
Subject: RE: Pump House Folk, Watford, UK, Fridays From: Singing Referee Date: 18 Nov 08 - 08:16 AM For once I can agree with everything Breezy say! |

Subject: RE: Pump House Folk, Watford, UK, Fridays From: Hamish Date: 20 Nov 08 - 09:02 AM Well, Breezy's spelling and grammar is always impeccable, so it's only fair that we all try to live up to his high standards. Break a leg, you guys! Have a great time, and look after those lovely Pump House folk(ie)s! |

Subject: RE: Pump House Folk, Watford, UK, Fridays From: Singing Referee Date: 21 Nov 08 - 12:02 PM Tonight! |
Subject: RE: Pump House Folk, Watford, UK, Fridays From: breezy Date: 22 Nov 08 - 03:53 PM Last night I was really impressed by 'Moses and the ref' 2 sets of 45 minutes, a variety of songs, 2 of Moses originals, and they are Maidenhead song contest runner-up and winner, both well crafted, poignant and compulsive listening. Their voices blended well, and Steve's finger picking guitar work most accurate. They have gleaned some fine songs over the years, - about 6 years - drawing on transatlantic and British writers, whilst remaining close to the tradition. They looked good ,sounded good and were good. And they had a surprise guest/element that complimented their presentation. Hope more people get to see and hear them and all songwriters should be pleased to know they could possibly be promoting your songs and spreading your name. They are always on the look out for new songs. |
Subject: RE: Pump House Folk, Watford, UK, Fridays From: Houston_Diamond Date: 23 Nov 08 - 06:08 AM I really wanna make it there soon... I haven't been there in... oooh must be around a year since I did the open mike thingy on Tuesdays.. It wasn't even close to the same as the old folk days, miss the couple of pints with good music and cheese and pickle rolls :D Friday last week was a friend's birthday, this week was Glorystrokes at EFDSS so I'm hoping to make next week's. :D Hope it'll grow and expand... Subject: RE: Pump House Folk, Watford, UK, Fridays From: Houston_Diamond Date: 02 Dec 08 - 02:22 PM I'm still pondering what was meant by "a bit of variety at the Pump House" after I sang?!? Oh well... will have another go on Friday if I'm allowed :D It'll be nice to see Faustus :) |
Subject: RE: Pump House Folk, Watford, UK, Fridays From: Hamish Date: 03 Dec 08 - 08:21 AM Yay! As mentioned obliquely above, The Pump House hosts to totally wonderful Faustus this week. Paul Sartin, Benji Kirkpatrick and Saul Rose are three of the hottest talents on the UK folk scene and together they're awesome. ~8^) |
Subject: RE: Pump House Folk, Watford, UK, Fridays From: breezy Date: 04 Dec 08 - 05:58 AM met Saul's Dad, Pete Rose, last week in Tring 'With a dexterous twist of his muscular wrist he could sling it right over his head Oi!' The Pumphouse would have been his local club 40 -25 years ago Saul's coming home he used to be my accompanist ! He was 18 and had a very expensive melodeon , down in Cornwall, at Rose ! Hill he and Benji are the best and Paul too, John Kirkp can now retire, his works done !! This promises to be a really great night |
Subject: RE: Pump House Folk, Watford, UK, Fridays From: George Papavgeris Date: 04 Dec 08 - 06:08 AM Even I will drag my aching back to the Pump House for Faustus. Wouldn't miss them for the world. |
