Subject: Shameless Plug From: Cats Date: 31 Oct 08 - 06:43 AM This is a totally Shameless Plug. If any Catters are around West Devon or East Cornwall on 29th November, Mike O'Connor, Jon Heslop and Kathy Wallis are doing an evening of Cornish songs and stories to welcome Christmas at Rilla Mill Methodist Chapel, Rilla Mill, near Liskeard / Launceston / Callington [It is sort of in the middle of the triangle. The highlight of the evening has to be the 'Methodist Tea' the ladies are planning afterwards. If you have never had a Methodist Tea then you don't know what you have missed! It's worth hearing us just to get one. |

Subject: RE: Shameless Plug - 29 Nov, Methodist Tea (UK) From: Rasener Date: 01 Nov 08 - 06:43 AM LOL I once enquired at our methodist church about running my club there, some time ago. I mentioned a bar and they refused of course. I had to look elsewhere as beer makes up part of the evening :-) Apart from that it would have been a very good venue. As it is now, we have a very good village hall with bar. On the side, when I lived in Amsterdam, we went to a new restaurant (curry) and the owners religion didn't allow alcohol, but he had applied for a licenece and was waiting for it. We ordered our meal and a bottle of wine. The owner said "I am sorry sir, we are not allowed to serve alcohol. However, we do serve lovely pots of red or white tea" It took a few seconds to catch on. So we ordered a pot of red tea, and as it was so nice, we ordered another. It was the first time we slurred our words after drinking tea. LOL :-) |
Subject: RE: Shameless Plug - 29 Nov, Methodist Tea (UK) From: Cats Date: 01 Nov 08 - 07:10 AM The reason we are doing the show in the methodist chapel is that the whole village is trying to support them as the chapel is alovely building and as the congregation is small it costs alot to keep it up so we are doing our bit as otherwise it will have to be sold off and turned into flats. The village wants to keep it as a village centre as well. |

Subject: RE: Shameless Plug - 29 Nov, Methodist Tea (UK) From: GUEST,Arkie Date: 01 Nov 08 - 10:42 AM I don't venture far from my little half acre in the Arkansas Ozarks but a trip to Cornwall would be nice. Have been fascinated with the region since Poldark made it to Masterpiece Theater on TV. A life long Methodist and one who has sampled a many a Methodist Pie, I confess to not having a clue about Methodist Tea. For great music, Methodist Tea, historic location, and good cause, hopefully, there will be an overflowing audience. |
