Subject: Lyr Req: Baby In My Dinner!
From: GUEST,Jacqued
Date: 06 Nov 08 - 02:39 PM

Greetings!   Heard a lovely childrens carol t'other day, ending with the line "There's a baby in my dinner and it's just not fair!"

Singer then escaped before he could be tackled!   Does it ring any bells with Mudcatters, please?

Ed

About 9 or 10 years back, we heard it in our local primary school Infants Nativity Play. It was after the baby Jesus had arrived and had been laid on a bed of hay. It was a comment from the donkey/ass probably around the time shepherds or kings were visiting. I cannot recall if it was a songs worth or just a short filler.
My recollection is of of the kids singing :-
Ee-aw ee-aw, doesn't anybody care.
There's a baby in my dinner, and they just don't care.

At the time we thouhght it was a marvellous line.
I've asked our Maddie, who was the infant in the play, but she doesn't remember any more than that either.

Quack!
GtD.

Unfortunately these nativity plays are written and sold to primary schools and I haven't yet come across the one they did that contained that song. Maybe the twins could ask one of their teachers if they have it still in school but to get hold of the sheet music you'd have to purchase the whole thing and they do not come cheap.

Hee-haw, hee-haw
does anybody care
There's a baby in my dinner
and its just not fair

Jesus in the manger
lying in the hay
far too young to realise
he's getting in the way

I don't blame the baby
not his fault at all
but his parents really should respect
a donkey's feeding stall

After all that journey
with my heavy load
did I ever once conplain
about that dreadful road

I can cope with the backache
and these swollen feet
all I ask is some respect
and one square meal to eat

"Be prepared", I told them
better book ahead
Joseph said "Don't be an ass"
and took a chance instead

Now they've pinched my bedroom
people are so rude
I can cope with that but not
a baby in my food

GUEST,Me - Any clues about its origin? Where did you happen across lyrics? Was there a tune attached, or details of who wrote it?
Quack!

Can anyone come up with a tune for this? I made up one of my own, but I'd love to know what it's supposed to sound like.
Blessings,
Barbara

Still don't know any more about it than I did in previous postings. Maybe someone out there has a tune?
Can't find any tune via the internet, although the lyric or parts of it turn up in a couple of places such as this web site http://tasmanbay.org/

GUEST,William H - You seem to have nailed the source.
Using your info in a web search brings us the publisher's web site and the author's books :-
Michael Forster

He seems to be a prolific writer of Christian stuff for schools.
Unfortunately when you click on book titles for further info, not many of them give anything particularly informative to someone who doesn't already have the book.

The song title is however listed here :-
Bumper Book of Assemblies - Book 2.

Quack!
GtD.

Kevin Mayhew; neat fact No1:
On some published music the surname appears as a neat 'ambigram'

If anyone's still following this thread, the song is in a book called 'The World is Full of Smelly Feet' (another song of mine, based on the Last Supper, also in the same book) and is available from Kevin Mayhew Ltd at http://www.kevinmayhew.com/world-is-full-of-smelly-feet.html#.VngvkDY_XeQ
Not wanting to rain on anybody's parade, but please do note that the words (by myself) and music (by Noel Rawsthorne) are copyright.

Hi, Michael-
If somebody wants to record one of your songs, how can they get permission?
